Prologue
The woman was in pain, and the pain only worsened, taking her breath away and rendering her unable to talk. With the dull pain in her back and lower abdomen, she screamed out in pain, and then fruitfully, a low rhythmic repetitive sound of an infant crying was heard in the labor room.
Tiredly, she sighed in relief, until the baby she gave birth to was brought before her. The happy smile faded off as she held the child in her arms.
Confused and devastated at what her mate was going to say, she sobbed to herself. Would the baby be put to death knowing full well she wasn't his?
“Why has the moon goddess chosen to punish me and ruin my perfect bond?” She cried out while the nurse confronted her.
“We should tell alpha Braxton about the baby. Or should we just tell him that the child is stillborn?” Doctor Tyler, the pack’s favorite doctor asked.
“No! We can't do that! He deserves to know about the child, even if I'm scared of what may happen to her. I really don’t know what the outcome will be. He should still know about her, he deserves to know the truth,” Luna Eva said as more tears streamed from her eyes.
Doctor Tyler left and soon returned with Alpha Braxton, whose eyes were beaming with joy and his lips with a wild smile. When he saw the face of his mate, crying while cuddling the baby close to her chest, the smile on his face faded off as he hurried to his wife.
“What's wrong?” he asked her, reaching over to hold the baby. Eva turned, adjusting to cover the baby.
“What's wrong, Eva? I’m not finding this funny," Alpha Braxton said, trying to calm himself from exploding.
“I wanted the baby to be yours, I honestly did want the baby to be yours, but it turns out the Moon Goddess doesn't want us to have our own,” Luna Eva cried out while presenting the baby to her mate.
The little infant was fast asleep in her mother’s hands. She was almost like any regular child, the only difference being that she was blue, signifying that she was a hybrid; half vampire and half -werewolf.
She thought her mate would be sad and angry while throwing a ruckus, but instead, he smiled and held the baby in his arms.
“She is wholly innocent, perfect, and cute,” Alpha Braxton said, kissing the baby's cheeks before clutching her to his chest.
“I’m perplexed! Are you not angry that the child is not from you? Weren’t you going to order the killing of the child knowing well that the child is his? Your most hated enemy,” Luna Eva asked, a little confused at her mate’s attitude and behavior.
“Why would I kill this innocent being? Even if she’s not mine, she still has werewolf genes in her. And besides, she was born from you, and I love you too much to ever hurt anything that comes out from you. She will grow up under our parenting and guidance. She’s already the source of our happiness, isn’t she? So no, I won’t hurt her and nobody will dare hurt her, not under my watch!”
Braxton said as he tried consoling the infant who was muttering some sound.
“Besides, he is dead, and the Moon Goddess gave you to me as my mate. The Moon Goddess indeed blessed me so handsomely. I have less than nothing to worry about! Here you go, I think she's hungry,” he smiled as he watched the baby stir in his arms.
“You should give her something to eat,” he said, handing the baby over to her mate.“
“I’m sorry Braxton. The Moon Goddess knows I'm really sorry for making you go through this pain of raising his child. I can leave once I am strong enough, and you won't have to hear from us ever again!” Luna Eva pleaded. She still couldn't believe Braxton’s intentions to willingly raise the late Vampire King’s offspring, who was his long-sworn enemy.
Luna Eva was once mated to the Vampire King. Though mated to him, her life was a living hell. She never found happiness, as everything she did to make him happy was never appreciated nor understood by him. She was nothing but a s*x doll to him. He never recognized her as his queen. Instead, he kept her locked up all through her years of staying with him, and he went about with the vampire lady he decided to marry and show off to his people.
He attempted to conquer Latvia, The City of the Gods – the impregnable city made of gold with only the prettiest and fertile women. History has it that all kingdoms that attempted to conquer him had failed and fallen.
He was killed during a battle to claim the city of Latvia. The news of his death brought joy and happiness to Eva and the people of the vampire kingdom. That was when she was freed from his hold and the bond that connected both of them was broken. She managed to escape the kingdom, renouncing everything that connected her to the vampire kingdom, and she finally became a free woman once again.
Two weeks later, she found her second chance mate in Alpha Braxton. She was reluctant to open her heart. Her first chance of the mate bond didn't end well, and she was scared of going through the same pain again. She thought of rejecting him and being done with him, but Alpha Braxton was a living god.
Alpha Braxton wasn’t like her first mate, the vampire king. He was rather the opposite of him. He was kind, nice, lovely, protective of her, and never missed the chance to show her to the world.
Eva decided to give him a chance and, since then, her life has been a blessed and happy one. Until today…when she discovered the baby. Her worst memory came back to her like a blow to her face.
“I've already told you we will keep the baby. She is mine as well. We shall never talk of her biological emergence until death takes us apart. So just rest and get stronger, but don’t you ever dare think of running away because I will find you even if it means burning the earth to get to you! I will do that.”
Alpha Braxton continued, now sounding utopian, “You are my happiness, and I don't plan on losing that.” He placed a kiss on her forehead and then the infant before beaming her a smile.
“What more could I have asked for in a mate? You are perfect, and I cherish you. I love you, Braxton Wyatt.”
“I love you too, Eva Wyatt.” He blew a kiss at her before leaving the room. Soon, the nurses arrived to tend to her before rolling her to the room where she would be staying till she was completely healed.
