VENUS The sound of the gunshot was less noisy than the commotion within me. It did not allow me to notice that I was the only one who had not moved an inch. Everyone else had run into the field, kicking up dust in their determination to find a piece. I snapped out of my thoughts and I joined the search. I could see April pulling stumps out of her way, displaying her strength. She was not someone I could beat in a fist fight. “I found one!” someone exclaimed from somewhere and dashed towards Prefect Naomi to submit her piece. It was placed on a tray and I did not get to see what it looked like. How funny was it, searching for something you had never seen before? Another person screamed and returned with another piece. With every shout of joy, my hope died and I was ready to give up.
