“Why won’t you let me touch you?” He growled exasperatedly. “I have a fiancée Herod”. She stuttered.“Do you want me to believe that you don’t feel the connection we have? That your heart isn’t pounding against your rib cage in eager to touch me?” Brenda’s breath quickened, fingers clutching her dress as she stood where she was, not making any attempt to move because there was no telling what she could do once she did. He trudged in slow steps until he was standing in her space, breathing the same air she was breathing and staring darkly at her. He leaned down until he was close to her ear, his fingers trailing slowly around her lower waist and he whispered, seductively, almost throwing her to her knees and luring her to sleep simultaneously.“I know you feel it, I can feel it too sweet thing. Let me make you feel good”… Brenda shut her eyes so tight, a tiny whimper escaping her lips and she found myself nodding her head from up to down. He smirked sinfully and she just knew in that moment that she was in trouble.

Chapter 1
Brenda’s POV “Why won’t you let me touch you?” He growled exasperatedly. “I have a fiancée Herod”. She stuttered. “Do you want me to believe that you don’t feel the connection we have? That your heart isn’t pounding against your rib cage in eager to touch me?” Brenda’s breath quickened, fingers clutching her dress as she stood where she was, not making any attempt to move because there was no telling what she could do once she did. He trudged in slow steps until he was standing in her space, breathing the same air she was breathing and staring darkly at her. He leaned down until he was close to her ear, his fingers trailing slowly around her lower waist and he whispered, seductively, almost throwing her to her knees and luring her to sleep simultaneously. “I know you feel it, I can feel it too sweet thing. Let me make you feel good”… Brenda shut her eyes so tight, a tiny whimper escaping her lips and she found myself nodding her head from up to down. He smirked sinfully and she just knew in that moment that she was in trouble. —— Brenda jerked up immediately, her eyes meeting her rackety ceiling fan and her breath coming out in pant, sweat gathering on her forehead. Something was ringing incessantly and she looked to find her alarm blaring at her. Reading the time, a loud gasp escaped her. She stood up in a rush, her palm meeting her forehead in a slap Shit! Lois was going to have my head, she thought. She rushed out of the bed and got down to business immediately. She finished showering and dressing in the space of ten minutes and that was a global record for her She fed her cat his meal , took some apples from her tray on her kitchen counter before jogging out of the house. Leaven city was always buzzing with people and activities. Brenda hated moving here from her quiet and peaceful hometown but Lois being the over-bearer she was, coerced her into coming. She wouldn’t say she loved it but it wasn’t as bad as she thought. She got a good job, a great best friend and a loving and handsome fiancé. What more could she possibly want? She didn’t find it hard getting a cab to drive her to work. In this city, a cab can never be seen carrying only one passenger, the city was overpopulated and there weren’t much means of transportation. So now she was squeezed in between a double size woman and a woman who thought it right to get her heavy dog into the car. She couldn’t breathe and frankly she just needed to get out. Brenda was also grateful for her apartment. It wasn’t so far from her workplace which made surviving in the car easy. The driver dropped her and soon enough she was rushing into her workplace with her leg almost touching the back of my head. “Where have you been?” “I know. I’m sorry, I overslept and I didn’t prepare on time and I had to feed nico and——“ “Save it bee”. Lois huffed. Brenda pouted, moving to hug her best friend but was stopped by the raise of her palm. Brenda wasn’t sure how Lois put up with her but she did and she loved her. It was another perk of working with her best friend. Lois was higher than her in rank so she could always avoid the consequences of her late coming. Brenda knew she shouldn’t take that as an advantage as more complains kept rising but she just couldn’t help it. If there was one thing she had weakness of, it was sleep. Last night’s own was even more complicated because of the dream she had, the dream she had been having since she heard he was into town but she didn’t want to dwell too much on it. It was nothing. It had to be nothing. She kept telling herself You having s*x dreams of your ex who also happens to be twice as handsome now and happens to own multiple companies in leaven city and beyond is nothing. Her subconscious nagged but as usual was ignored. She didn’t want to think about it that way. She got to work immediately, persuading Lois with her favorite chips for lunch as bribe and as always she fell for it. Lunch time soon dragged around and Lois and Brenda were now sat at the cafeteria. “You had the dream again?” Lois whispered and Brenda sighed before nodding somberly. “Well s**t. Bet you soaked your sheets heh?” “Lois!!” She whisper yelled, glancing around the cafeteria. “What! You know he’s hot. I mean even the tabloids say so”. She shrugged and Brenda didn’t bother arguing because she was right. He was so hot now that she could not even believe she dated him in the past, he had soon become every girls dream, especially in leaven city, one’s that didn’t even know how he was before he became popular. “So what are you going to do?” Lois asked pulling her out of her thoughts. She shrugged. “What do I do? I can’t do anything Lois. I’m getting married in a matter of months”. She said getting slightly agitated. “Or you can call of the wedding?” Lois said and Brenda glared at her. She lifted her hands in surrender, pursing her lips and leaning further into the sit. Lois did not like Gerald. Gerald was Brenda’s fiancé and he was a banker. Lois didn’t like him because according to her, he was stuck up and proud, he didn’t deserve Brenda and he was too nice. In her words. Lois had known Brenda to date men that were slightly rough around the edges, the ones with long hair and marks on their skin, the ones that mothers warned their girls to stay away from. The term “bad boys” so to speak and Brenda’s ex boyfriend had been at typical example of that. Gerald however was completely different from her type of men and Lois always made sure to remind her. Brenda knew Lois was right though but Brenda didn’t want to date such men anymore, or so she thought? She just wanted to try something different. Gerald might be ….. complicated but he was nice and loving to Brenda . That was all that mattered right? “I love Gerald Lois. You should begin now to like him because he is going to be your brother inlaw soon”. Brenda mused and Lois rolled her eyes. “I wish he wouldn’t”. She said under her breath. “Sorry?” Brenda teased and Lois huffed. “I didn’t say anything.” “Better.” They chuckled and got back to eating in silence. Brenda’s mind couldn’t help but go back to her dreams, a shiver running through her but she shook her head at herself. She didn’t need to suffer during the day again just as she suffered during the night. It was already torture having to wake up with wet undies. The day flew by faster for Brenda. After her chat with her best friend, she got to work immediately. If there was anything Lois couldn’t deny it was that Brenda was good at her job, she was an asset to the company. “I really hate when Jude brings up that feminist bullshit he has going on.” Lois grumbled as she stumbles out of their bosses office. Brenda lifted her eyes to her best friend, glasses perched on her nose. She pushed her system to one side, removed the glasses and gave her undivided attention to her frowning best friend. “What did he say this time?” Brenda asked folding her hands and leaning closer to her friend perched on her desk. “A lot of bullshit that just makes my blood boil.” Lois harrumphed. “But the most important thing he said is what is troubling me. He can go to hell with the rest of his bullshit.” “What did he say Lou?” Brenda asked calmly: it was obvious that whatever Jude said was really upsetting if Lois was breathing so hard. She looked pissed and each time she was pissed, her lips pouted and her forehead creased together. It was the same thing with Brenda and it was one of the things that made them believe they were indeed soulmates. Lois then turned over and faces Brenda squarely, dragged the chair in front of her and sat, placing her system with her on the desk. Lois was no longer angry, instead she was frightened, worried and confused. Brenda’s forehead creased in confusion. This was a sudden turn of event, she had thought they were going to have to match over to Jude’s place to slaughter him. “Is everything okay Lou?” Brenda asked, her eyes still taking in the change of mood suddenly. “Jude said something that has being bothering me for a while now.” Lois began. “What… What did he say?” Brenda asked quickly. She wasn’t too smart to begin guessing what their boss could have said to get Lois like this, especially with the night she had, her stress from work and Gerald demanding they go see his parents who very much did not like her, she wasn’t in the mood in the slightest. “Well, one thing I’m sure of is our company won’t be sticking around come month end.” Lois sassed. “What? What does that mean?” Brenda asked, she didn’t know if Lois was joking or not, she couldn’t afford to loose this job, how will she pay her rent and fix her bathroom. Brenda was already panicking. “Jude is thinking of selling the company Brenda.” Lois said looking so serious. “Wait what?” “Shush!!” Lois scolded urging her friend to keep her voice down. She knew how Brenda could be, easily panicked and could blow things out of proportion.. “It’s nothing certain yet, but he keeps making instances and I saw a letter he wrote to this particular company last week. Plus Jude that hates staying back at the office past 3pm has slept in the office for a week straight Brenda. This has to be serious.” “No no no. What is going to happen to everyone? Jude can’t do this Lou. Jessica is due to give birth in a matter of months Lou, she needs this job. What about me, you know my issues with money, I can’t afford…. No, I can’t… Gerald’s mom will just have more reasons to hate me—-” “Do you think I don’t know that??” “Do you really? Does Jude even care? Or he’s just trying to save his own ass.” Brenda spat angrily. She was having an already shitty day, adding this to the mix was just asking for trouble. “I promise you Brenda, no one is going to get fired.” Lois said seriously. “How do you know that Lou. I know you and Jude has history but we both know how selfish Jude is.” Brenda hissed. “Do I make promises I can’t keep Brenda?” Lois asked, getting quite angry at her best friend. Brenda backed down, Lois question ringing in her ear. “I said I am going to make sure no one gets sacked, you just wait and see.” Lois said finally. She didn’t wait for Brenda to say anything before walking out. Brenda has always considered herself to be unlucky but this just changed everything. There was no way in hell she wasn’t cursed.
