9 THUNDERSTORMS HAD plagued the Van Nuys airport throughout the night. This morning it was still raining, but the tower had given pilots clearance to fly. Scarlett shook out her umbrella. “Good morning, David. Scarlett.” Lucan barely acknowledged her as he stepped onto the firm’s private aircraft at the Van Nuys airport. His eyes were sunken and smudged with dark circles as if he’d been up all night. Scarlett wondered why.
