Slave Wife
Sarah moved through the back door cautiously. Maybe if she tiptoed in no one would notice that she was arriving hours later than she should have.
But of course, Chloe was in the kitchen and spotted her right off.
“Sarah. We thought you’d never get back,” she griped. “Master wants you in his study. Now!”
Sarah cringed hearing the misplaced authority in the slave’s voice.
“Thank you for telling me,” she said with a degree of conviction to match the woman’s.
She absently dropped her purse on the counter, then walked through the kitchen, being in no particular hurry. She noticed two girls she’d never seen before. New recruits to the house of slaves? she silently wondered, then gave them no more thought as she proceeded to Alexander’s study.
