Chapter Eight … Bed of Thorns The morning crept inside the house a bit at a time, the sun a little tardy, at ten o’clock only peeking out from behind the heavy clouds. Sarah had slept in the master bedroom, Chloe in her assigned room, and Alexander had worked until nearly four in his office, finally laying down on one of the couches about six am.. Chloe was there to wake him with his morning coffee and remind him of his schedule that day. It had been two weeks since the incident in the cellar, which seemed to level some of the tensions in Alexander’s house. Sarah had been left feeling more positive about her marriage than she’d been in years. Chloe was ultimately more disgruntled, but she curbed her irritation, hiding behind her pleasant face and the demure behavior Alexander expected.
