Jane comes over early the morning of prom so that we can get ready together. I should be happy, but I can't shake the feeling in my chest that everything I do is bringing me closer to a life of uncertainty. We go to the hair salon after lunch. I keep thinking about how much has changed in such a short time as I sit in the chair, staring at my reflection while she tames the wild frizz in my hair. I've gained some things, such as friends and family and a less haughty attitude, but I've also lost some things, such as Jamie and my comfort zone. My hair has been pulled into a high bun, similar to the one I'd wear for ballet, but more sophisticated, by the time the hairstylist is finished.
