Chapter Six

I started sweating profusely. If Alana knew about me watching her during her intimate, private moment, there wasn’t a chance in hell that she wouldn’t rat on me. I was banking on the fact that she would never find out. How could I look at her and tell her the truth? Alana smirked with a bit of a twinkle in her eyes. “Are you going to just stand there, or are you going to say that you are sorry?” “What?” “Say that your sorry and that it will never happen again, and we will call it even. I don’t particularly like the fact that you somehow find the need to stalk me, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt. You got beat in a game that you are quite good at in front of a lot of people watching. I guess that you needed to blow off some steam, and you chose me to be your target. We can call it even now, and you can walk away.” I was still shocked that I couldn't register everything she had just said. “Why aren’t you going to turn me over to the cops?” “You seem to be going through enough issues in your life. If I call the cops, it will only add to it.” I’m not sure why she felt like I had issues. Okay, maybe it was a little true, but she didn’t have to use her therapist knowledge to try and degrade me right now. I looked at her for the first time since she told me she knew. “Look, I’m sorry,” I stopped myself. “Actually, I’m not sorry. You wore that f*****g sexy as hell outfit and rubbed your ass against my d**k. What was I supposed to do? You played with me last night. Okay, I didn’t expect to follow you. It sort of just happened, but I especially didn’t expect that you would go home and f**k your vibrator.” Alana leaned into me, letting her lips graze my earlobe. “It was so good, Soren. Since we are being honest with each other here, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I was pleasuring myself while thinking about you. It’s been a long time since a man has touched me, and when you did, it made my body crave unimaginable things. Tell me, did you play with yourself while watching me?” I gulped. The intoxicating scent of her all around me, mixed with the feel of her lips against my ear, was giving me a high feeling. I’ve never been big into drugs before, but this is one addiction that I could get on board with. When she got even closer, I pulled Alana against my chest and placed my hands on her waist. “Yeah, I did.” “What was your favorite part?” She purred in my ear. That was sort of hard to answer. The show was enjoyable all the way around. “When you came. That was by far the best part.” She licked her lips, licking my ear just a little. Alana may claim that she doesn’t want me, but right now shows me differently. Her body was craving to be touched in the most intimate ways possible. One time. That was all that I needed. At least, that is what I told myself. “Would it help if I said that I was imagining that it was you?” I locked my arm around her, backing her against someone random person's car. I lifted her leg and placed it around my waist, which she didn’t seem to mind. As I brushed the hair from out of her face, I couldn’t help this strong urge that coursed through me to kiss her. I leaned forward and brushed my lips against hers. “Alana! Where are you?” Alana pulled away from me quickly and backed away a few steps before the guy she was dancing with spotted her and walked over to us. He was a big, hefty guy. At least she had a type. He looked between us. I looked over at Alana, who was red in the face yet pale at the same time. “Hey. Alana, do you want to introduce me to your friend?” “He is a patient of mine,” she spat out before I could say anything. “He was looking a little down, so I thought that I would come out here and check to see if he was okay.” She briefly looked over at me, begging me not to tell him differently. “Soren, this is my friend Nate.” Nate, as in the guy that things were complicated with. I remembered last night when she stuck her head out the window, asking if someone by the name of Nate was there. At least she didn’t introduce him as her boyfriend. I guess there was a silver lining there. I stuck my hand out to shake his, backing up Alana’s story. “Hey, man. Nice to meet you.” Nate took my hand in his with a grip that wasn’t as friendly. “Yeah, you too. Hey babe, do you think that we can get out of here? We both have work in the morning, and I’m hungry as hell. Besides,” he said while stroking her face with his index finger. “you owe me a little bedroom time.” What? She was seriously out here with me, ready to kiss me, and she had plans to go back home with this douchebag and f**k him? I couldn’t see it before because of the unfamiliar sensation I got whenever I was near her, but I could see it now. I was a plaything to her, much like I suppose I do with most women. The only difference is that I’m upfront with them about what I want. One night in bed, and that’s it, so they knew what to expect. Alana was playing things differently, and I was done being that toy for her. “You guys have a good night. Oh, and by the way. Alana, I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to continue being my therapist. Stay away from me.” When I saw the look of shock on her face, I expected that I would be satisfied, but it had the opposite effect. Mostly, I wanted to run back over there and pick her up in my arms and tell this Nate guy to f**k off. But we were past that point. Alana made it perfectly clear that she was unavailable. I know that I’ve messed around with women in relationships before, but after the harsh lip beating that I got from Eve, I promised her I wouldn’t do it again. ** As soon as I woke up the next morning, I went for a run. My runs usually lasted no more than an hour, but I found myself with more on my mind than usual. Eve had tried to call me a few times, but I was slightly embarrassed to tell her how things went last night. I’ve never been able to lie when it came to Eve. I guess you could say that she saw right through me every time. By the time I made it back to my place, it was already four in the afternoon. I went into my gym room to work out just a little bit more. I couldn’t stop my usual routine just because I was off my game a little. When my workout was finished, I jumped in the shower for a little bit before loading up my laptop. I had been working side jobs here and there to keep up with the rent of this place, but I knew that I needed something more permanent. The club that I was at last night was looking for a full-time bouncer and a full-time bartender, but I’m not sure that working there would be the best thing for me. Yes, it would get me a lot of women, but I didn’t want to take the chance of seeing Alana again. I couldn’t take seeing her again. It was painful, though I wouldn’t admit it. Alana was the first woman I felt something more for than just s****l attraction. Don’t get me wrong, the s****l attraction was insane with her, but I found myself wanting to know her. That never happens with me. It just so happens that the first woman I feel something else for turns out to be already involved with someone else. Go figure. After searching through some wanted sites and putting in a few applications, I made myself a roast beef sandwich. It was a workday for everyone else, so I had no one to go out with or do anything with. It made me stop and think about Cole and Mia. They haven’t been around so much lately. After they had the baby, their lives became a little hectic. I know that they will be at Eve’s wedding in a few weeks, so I will catch up with them then. In the meantime, I guess that I would just sit here at home all by myself. I sat on the couch for a while, trying to watch tv, but nothing was keeping me entertained. I found myself grabbing my jacket and out the door with no place in mind to go. As I walked down the sidewalk, a group of women walked by and giggled. It would be so easy to get one of them to come back to my place with me, but the idea wasn’t as fun as it once was. “Well, if it isn’t Soren. How did you take that girl beating you the other night, sweety?” “I’m good, Sally. Can I just get a cold beer?” I took a look around the bar, finding it usually busy for a weekday. There seemed to be a pool tournament going on, but I had no interest in playing tonight. Sally turned back around, popping the top off the beer and sliding it over to me. “What has you all down? It isn’t like you to be all mopey. Does it have anything to do with that girl?” I looked up at her and c****d my head. “I may be older than you, but I’m not blind. You and her had a real connection.” “Yeah. I thought so too, but she is with someone else. All that flirting out on the pool table was just to get my guard down for her to win, and it worked. I don’t know, Sally. For the first time in my life, I found myself wanting to get to know a woman instead of just sleeping with her. Then I find out that she is seeing someone. Last night, she was all over me. We were about to kiss until her little boyfriend came running outside to interrupt us.” “Whew. That does sound like a problem. If you want my opinion, I say go out there and move on. One thing you will learn in life is that there is plenty of fish in the sea.” I smiled. “My friend Eve would disagree with you. She believes that there is a soulmate for everyone.” Sally nodded. “And I agree with her. Soren, there are soulmates, then there are just people we learn to love. Soulmates are instant. You know, the minute you see them because your entire world changes, but sometimes when we find our soulmates, it isn’t always meant to be. When that happens, you move on and find someone that is good enough for you that you learn to love them. I had a soulmate, but I didn’t marry my soulmate. My husband turned out to be his friend, Roger, who was in the military. Over time, I realized that Roger was good for me and fell in love with him. Do you see where I’m going with this?” “I think so. With soulmates, it is instant love with others; it takes time for that to build. I got it. Thanks.” She leaned in with her elbows on the bar. “If it were me, I’d get out there and start dating. Not sleeping around but going on actual dates. You might be surprised by what you find.” Sally was right. I couldn’t just wait around for Alana to suddenly become available. I might not be good at the whole dating thing, but I needed to give it a try. All my friends had someone else. When it was nights like this, and the loneliest crept in, I wanted to have someone there with me too. I slapped a twenty on the bar because I always tipped Sally well. “I think you are right, Sally. Thanks for the talk, but I’m going to head out. Big day tomorrow.” Sally yelled from behind me as I was running out, “no problem, kid!”
