Melania's POV
I know the wolves are faster than the truck, and they will soon realize I left the territory. I don't know what to do. David will feel when I leave, and I need to get away fast.
"We need to leave the truck behind," I hear a voice in my head. I am startled at first, as it is the first time I heard the voice in my head.
"Honey, don't be afraid it is me, Sapphire. I am your wolf, I will tell you all about us, but at the moment, we need to get away fast. I will hide our scent when they follow us. They will not know where we went," Sapphire says in a soft voice. She knows she needs to calm Melania down, as Melania is freaking out right now.
She gets out of the car and grabs her purse, and then changes into her wolf. She starts running. She knows she needs to get away fast, or if David catches her, she will be dead. Melania is glad to hear her wolf's voice for the first time. She does not feel all alone in the world anymore. She starts running, and as they run, Sapphire hides their smell so the wolves would not follow them.
She hears David howls, and she knows he just realized that she has escaped, she must have missed her at the ceremony, and he must have felt her bond break with the pack as she crossed the border. She is scared, but she runs, and Sapphire tells is leading the way. It feels like Sapphire knows where they should be going. She has no idea where she is going or where she will end up, and she knows she feels free as she runs like the wind. She feels free as she feels the wind through her fur. She will not go back even if she has to die tonight. She will die a free wolf. Freedom is the one thing she craved the most in her whole life. She runs, and Sapphire hides their scent as far as they go.
David's POV
I hear the wolves chant, my name tonight is my night. I am the new Alpha, and I hope that b***h is watching from the shadows again like she always does when we have a celebration. The whores son is becoming the Alpha tonight. It must eat at her. She always thought she was better than him, and he is not going to have any mercy on her tonight. Tonight that b***h will die. He had enough of her. He looks over the wolves and the spot where she usually hides, but she is not there. He knows she will normally be there watching. He smiles. Maybe this is too painful for her. He is a bit disappointed as he was hoping to see the pain on her face. She was supposed to be the new Alpha. He looks at his old man that is drinking and is almost too drunk to stand up. He feels disgusted in his heart as he looks at the old Alpha and his father. He does not have much respect for the old wolf. After tonight he does not have to suck up to the old wolf anymore. After tonight he will be Alpha, and he will be able to do as he like. That is when he feels the bond break with one of his pack members. Someone has escaped. He laughs as he looks around again and sees Melania is not there. She has no wolf. How far does she think she will get before they catch up with her? He calls his warriors and tells them to start looking for her. He stays at the ceremony for a while. After a while, his warriors come back and inform him the old pick up truck is gone. He runs to see for himself. He has an evil smile on his face as he barks out orders.
"Follow her scent and get her. I want her alive. I want to be the one that punishes her." David says.
"Yes, Alpha," The warriors says as they start following her scent, they get the pickup truck just outside their borders, but they lost her scent.
The warriors return to tell him. They are all afraid to tell him they lost her scent. He looks at them with a question on his face.
"Where is she?" He asks.
"We found the pickup truck, but she is not there, Alpha, and we lost her scent at the border," One of the braver warriors says.
"Impossible!" David shouts.
"We looked around. All her stuff is in the pickup truck, but she is nowhere to be found, Alpha," the warrior replied.
David gets up and runs to the border with his beta and the rest of the pack. It is impossible she has no wolf. Where could she go? She must have had help. He looks at her uncle. He must have helped her to get away.
"Where is she?" he asks her uncle. David knows that her uncle helped her trained before, and he knows if there is someone that would help her, it will be this useless beta.
"I do not know, Alpha," His beta replied. He is glad Melania got away.
"You are lying to me, Beta," David says and walks over to Melania's uncle. He grabs him by the neck.
"I really do not know where she is, Alpha," His beta reply pissing David off. He looks at the beta, and somehow he believes him. He is angry. He wanted his revenge, and he takes his anger out on the beta and snaps his neck like a twig and throws his lifeless body at his feet.
"Anyone knows where she might have gone to?" He asks. Everyone looks down as none of her really knows Melania.
"No, Alpha," All of them says like one man.
Melania's POV
Sapphire and I keep running. I let her lead me as I have no clue where we are going.
"Where are we going, Sapphire?" I ask her.
"To find our mate, we are very special wolves, out mate and us," Sapphire says, and I am a bit disappointed. I don't want a mate. All I want is my freedom. And what mate will want me anyway?
"You are special, Melania. You will realize just how special you are when the time comes."
I am not so sure I am special, but at the moment, I thank the Moon Goddess for my wolf. I don't feel so lonely in the world anymore. Since my mother died, I felt so alone. I had no one, not even a wolf. Now I have Sapphire, and I will trust her for the moment.
"I want freedom, Sapphire, not a mate. What will happen if he does not want us?" I am so used to be rejected that I wonder about this so-called mate of ours.
"Then he will kill us, but I believe that will not happen," Sapphire says.
"Trust me, little one. I had to hide so long and not show myself or try to heal you, and it was difficult for me. I wanted to heal you and protect you, but I knew it was not the best time to reveal the truth. Your father and half-brother would have killed us if they knew who and what we are." Sapphire tries to explain what she can at the moment to Melania.
"What are we?" Melania asks.
"You will find out soon," Is all Sapphire tells her at the moment.
"We are far enough. Now lets sleep for a while. They will not be able to find us here," Sapphire says, and she goes to lie down in a cave. They need to rest, and they need to hunt tomorrow morning. They are hungry. Sapphire's fur keeps them warm for the night.
David's POV.
He runs back to the packhouse. He is angry, Melania escaped him, but luckily his father is not as clever as she is. He wants to kill the old wolf who mistreated his mother, although he does not really care about the pack w***e that was his mother. But he needs to be careful and not turn the wolves against him.
He walks to the middle of the clearing and onto the stage and calls all the wolves to gather again. The night is still young, and he still has plans. He might have lost one of the ones he wanted to kill tonight, but he still has one left he wants to take care of. The wolves gather around the stage and wait for him. He knows some hates him as they hate his old man, but tonight he wants to win their trust and respect, and he is going to use his old man for that. David is heartless as he grew up with a ruthless father and without a mother that cared about him. He knows the pack loved their old Luna. She was the pack doctor and the mother of the pack. The way his father treated her did not sit well with them. He took in a w***e and had a child with her, and then he killed her. They hate the old Alpha, and some hate him as well. He was the son of the pack w***e, after all. He killed their beloved Beta tonight, and he will have to explain himself.
"Tonight, we are here to celebrate a new beginning, a new era for our pack. I am sorry Melania escaped. Our beta helped her, and I had to take care of him. She was a weakling in our pack. She wanted to become Alpha, and she does not even have a wolf. Do you want to become the laughing stock of the werewolf world? Having an Alpha without a wolf?"
The wolves boo and agree with him they do not want a useless Alpha. It is good he killed the beta who helped her escape. What if she comes back and tries to become their Alpha? All the wolves will laugh at them having an Alpha without a wolf. Everyone will think they are weak.
"I am also here to revenge the death of our beloved Luna, and she was the only mother I really knew. My mother was a pack w***e, but I never saw her as my mother. Our beloved Luna was like a mother to me. He killed her!" David points at his father. The old alpha is drunk, but he looks up in surprise. Is his beloved son turning on him?
"I think we all want justice for our beloved Luna!" David shouts as he looks at his useless old man. He hates him! He has no respect for the weakling of a so-called old Alpha. The packs around them had no respect for him anyway.
The pack cheer as they wanted revenge on the old Alpha for a long time. David, although cruel and heartless, wins over most of the pack with his speech.
"Tonight, he will die as he lived. He will die a violent death. He will die at my hand! Grab him and take him to the dungeon," David orders his warriors. He has a sly, cruel smile on his face, but no one noticed as they are too busy looking at the old Alpha being dragged to the dungeon. They are bloodthirsty.
"My son, what have I ever done to you to deserve this? My wife never loved you. You are a liar!" But the wolves do not hear his words as he is drunk and slurring.
"Go ahead and celebrate my beloved pack," David says as he walks over to the dungeon with his warriors. He tells the warriors to leave them alone as soon as his old man is cuffed in silver cuffs. He is not going to fight the old wolf as David is a coward. He attacks his old man tearing him apart limb by limb. The old wolves last words make him nervous, but he laughs it off as Melania does not even have a wolf.
"I was wrong to believe in you. I should have loved my daughter. One day she will get you, and the day she lays her paws on you, you will regret being born."
David laughs, not knowing just how true his father's words will become.
