Three hours of unpacking clothes and I was finally free to move on to my other boxes that held my nick knacks, shoes and books. As I was putting books on my shelves I heard a knock on my door. From the rhythm of the knock I knew it was my sister.
"Come in Izzy." I called as I headed back to the boxes to grab a few more books to put away.
The door opened and Bella walked in before she closed the doors.
"It's Bella." She said.
My sister's birth name is Isabella Marie Swan but she liked to go by Bella. I on the other hand liked to call her Izzy which she didn't like. My birth name is Sophia Allyse Swan, I like to go by Soph or Phi. Only my dad and Bella ever called me Sophia, unless I'm in trouble then its Sophia Allyse.
Bella looked around the room and smiled.
"This is really big." She said. "Imagine having to dust it." she added as she walked over towards the bathroom. "Imagine having to clean that tub." As she turned back towards me she eyed my closet. "Whats in here?" she asked curiously.
"It's the water heater." I replied sarcastically.
"Really?" My sister asked as she opened it. She let out a breath as she acknowleged my sarcasm. "Where did all these clothes come from?"
I walked over to her side.
"Storage. I couldn't fit them all in my bedroom at moms so I had to pick what I wanted to pack away. Since over half my clothes are winter clothes I never had a reason to bring them out unless we were visiting dad." I replied.
Bella nodded her head as she took a step back.
"Nice selection. Oh, now I remember what I came here for. Dad said that we are going to have company soon for dinner and he wants us to help. Billy and Jake are coming over to see the new place and he wants to use the firepit in the back but there is no wood."
"Then why don't you get it?" I asked Bella.
"Because you and dad can't cook. You on the other hand have nothing else to do." Bella replied.
I sighed. "Why can't dad do it?"
"He's fixing the pipes in our bathroom upstairs, just do it okay." Bella said before she left the room.
Sighing in defeat I knew there was no way I'd be getting out of this work detail so I decided to roll with it. Shrugging out of my good clothes I pulled on my red and white striped shirt and jeans. Stepping into my boots I grabbed my ipod and headed outside onto the wrap around porch that led to the backyard.
I looked at the fire pit and the wood barrel and saw there was no wood meaning I'd have to go and find some in the forest. Luckily we lived so close so it shouldn't be a problem. Putting my earphones in my ears I turned on my music and set off along the path that led to the pond before I strayed into the woods.
Every few steps I'd stop and pick up a few thick branches and place them in a neat pile. Soon the pile was large enough to create a nice sized fire in the firepit. As I turned around to began taking the wood back up I felt like someone was watching me. Pulling the earphones from my ears I listened carefully. To my left over by a tree I could hear shuffling, in the next second a deer stepped out.
I couldn't believe this, a deer was just feet from me. I walked forward only to stop when I heard a growl from somewhere in the woods. Curiously I continued on towards the deer. I was positive that any meat eating creature wouldn't come this close to humans right?
As I got closer to the deer it began walking off. I couldn't help but follow it as it went deeper into the woods. I didn't think that I went that deep into the woods but when I finally stopped to turn around I could no longer see the backyard of the house nor could I remember which way I had come.
Then I heard it again, the roar. What kind of animal roared like that, it seemed unnatural. Suddenly something blurred past me causing me to spin around disoriented. Then it happened again and once more. Screaming I took off at a run. I didn't know where I was going but I knew I needed to get away from whatever that was.
As I continued running I kept in mind that there was more then likely no one around for miles unless you counted my home. I was sure I would die in this forest. I stopped when I couldn't run any longer and looked around to find a place that I could possibly hide. It was well into the night and I knew that being in the forest at night was worse then being in it during the day time. I was now at the bottom of the foodchain as I knew I would become the hunted by every animal that was now awake.
I stumbled through the darkness of the woods and tensed up as I felt something grab my hair. Unmoving I did my best to tell myself I was imagining it and to continue walking but as I took a step I felt my hair being pulled. Screaming I did the best I could to break free from whatever was holding me back. After having a handful of my hair ripped from my scalp I managed to get away. I could feel my scalp growing wet and quickly pressed my hand to it. From a glimpse of the moons light I was able to see that my hand was covered in red, I was bleeding.
Frightened for my life I took off running again. I didn't look back or stop when I felt branches and plants slapping at my legs. Where was I? Was I going to die? Sometime later I slowed down to a lazy walk. I was exhausted and scared. I knew that right now with the blood draining from my head I was a fivestar meal with a neon sign as I was certain any animal within a mile of my location could smell me.
All I could think about was sleeping, I needed to rest and then when the day came back around I could try and navigate myself out of the woods. Right now I would be risking my life and getting more lost if I was to try and continue on.
A few feet to my left, with the light of the moon, I could make out a small crevice in a large boulder between the ground and the bottom of the rock. It looked big enough for me to barely fit in so I made my way over and began scooting. Once I was inside I scooted as far back as I could.
The moment I got my breath back to normal I realized that stuff was crawling on me. There were bugs crawling on me. I did my best to not think about it and to focus on trying to fall asleep. If I fell asleep I wouldn't think about the bugs crawling all over my body. I forced my eyes closed as I reached for my ipod. When my pockets came up empty my eyes widened in shock. I lost my ipod somewhere in the woods meaning it was more then likely gone, I was never going to find it.
The only thing I could do now was to try and calm my mind and thing about good things. After an hour of laying there I knew it was no use. I wondered what time it was. Certainly it was early into the next morning. I wondered what my father and sister were doing? Where they still awake or did they send out a search party for me. Of course law states I had to be missing for 24 hours or something before they can officially do that. I was certain that because I was the daughter of the Chief of Police they would make an acception.
I was unceartain about how long I laid there, bugs crawling over my body, but the moment I saw the sign of the first light I slid out of my hiding spot. Here and there a few bugs were still crawling over my skin and I quickly shook them off before I began shaking out my hair. I could only imagine what had been in my hair. I craved a bath or a shower or even a river or something to clean off in. My hair was crusted with the blood of my head wound from last night. I needed to clean up to keep it from becoming infected but if I didn't get out of here it would be impossible.
I continued walking for several hours as the sun had risen completely and the forest was illuminated. Sometime during my walk I peered up through the trees and realized that the sun was now completely over head. I knew from living in Arizona that it was noon time. From noon to 4pm was the time where residence in Arizona were more likely to be sunburnt. Atleast in Forks I didn't have to worry about that.
As I continued on in my walk I had to stop several times. I was thirsty and hungry and had nothing to eat or drink since I left Arizona. I sat down on an old log and began to break down into tears. I was looking at the worst case scenario. I was lost in the forest in Forks Washington which is made up of several miles of greenage. That is alot of area to search, like a needle in a haystack. If they didn't find me soon I would either die of dehydration or starve if not eaten alive by some carnivore that dwelled in the forest.
Sometime during the time I had been sitting the sun seemed to disappear. I thought maybe it was night again but then I felt water droplets. It was beginning to rain. As I heard a crackle of thunder I rememberd my fathers words. The weekly forcast was all rain. Well this was one good thing, I would be getting a shower, even though it wouldn't be a good one.
I knew I needed to move though because soon enough it would become night and I would need somewhere to stay at for the night. I continued on making my way through the forest, stumbling tiredly through the brush. Manuevering my way blindly through the forest. Soon enough night had begun to fall and I feared I would spend another night in the forest.
As I moved to take another step the ground must've sloped because I lost my footing and fell, tumbling heavily downwards. After tumbling down the hill I landed on my stomach, my face pressed into the ground. I didn't want to move, I was so tired and so sore but I knew I needed to keep moving. Then I heard it, the sound of rushing water. Rushing water mean a river and a river mean being able to get clean.
I forced myself to my knees and found the river just feet from where I was. I crawled the distance and quickly ducked my head into the rushing water and began doing the best I could to wash my hair. After a few minutes of scrubbing my scalp I then began cleaning the soot and dirt off the rest of my body. Now I was clean, but wet and cold. This meant one thing when it came to survival in the cold, I was now at risk for hypothermia if I didn't get warm and dry.
Behind me I heard a rustle in the bushes. Rising to my feet I turned around slowly and saw as a mountain lion stepped out of the bushes and began making its way towards me. I turned around and looked for somewhere to go. There was the river, a tree, a house... there on the other side of the river was a house. If I could just get to it. It was clear that the water in the river was too fast for me to cross and too wide for me to jump.
To my left the tree had one branch that extrended over the most part of the river. If I could get into the tree I could use the branch as a bridge and drop myself over. Then if I was fast enough I could make it to the house and hope they answered the door before it got me.
I quickly used all the strength I had to scale the tree. Just as I lifted myself into the safety of the tree the lion took a swipe at me and caught my leg with its sharp claws. I let out a scream of pain as I pulled my leg up. I didn't even want to look at the wound I knew I had because I would become unhinged. I just continued on, ignoring the pain as best as I could.
I inched my way along the branch as I listened to the lion trying to climb up the tree. I could hear the trunk of the tree suffering the abuse from the lions claws like my leg had done. As I was halfway across the branch it snapped and I fell with it. I did the best I could to hold onto weeds at the rivers bank so I could pull myself up. When I had landed the lower half of me landed in the river.
After a few seconds I managed to get myself onto the dry ground. Taking a deep breath I pushed myself to my feet and took off at a run towards the house. I could hear the roars of the lion but I didn't want to turn around as I was afraid of how close it was to me.
The moment my hands were in reach of the house I began pounding as hard as I could on the glass window. A man with dark hair and pale skin snapped his head in my direction. Then I felt something touch my shoulder and I let out a blood curtling scream. It was the lion, it had to be the lion.
"Are you okay?" A womans voice said.
I opened my eyes and looked through the glass again. With the man I had saw were a few others. A girl with short hair, a man with blonde curls, a boy with bronze hair and another boy with bronze hair. Behind them was a man with blonde hair and beside him a girl with long blonde waves.
I turned around slowly and saw, standing before me, a woman with long wavy brown hair. She looked kind and gentle meaning I knew she would help me. As I realized I was safe I felt the exhausted full on. I knew I was going to live and in a matter of time I would be back with my dad.
"I'm alive." I breathed before I collasped into her arms.
In the next moment the guy with the slick blonde hair, who must've been her husband, was lifting me into his arms and carrying me inside. I closed my eyes, that were feeling extremely heavy from my lack of sleep.
"Sophia Swan." The man said to me.
I opened my eyes as we entered a brightly lit room. Everything was pale and smelled clean and sanitary. I nodded my head weakly.
"My dad." I whispered. "I need to call my dad." I told him.
A door opening drew my attention and I saw the girl with the short black hair. She walked over to my side and fell into a silent conversation with the blonde man. I caught a few words here and there but non of it made enough sense for me to focus the last of my energy on. When the small girl left the man spoke.
"I'm Dr. Carlisle Cullen." He introduced himself. "I want you to know that you are safe here and that we are going to contact your father. You have a few injuries that need to be treated but before we do that we need to get you cleaned off. With your permission I'd like my wife to help you bath and then I can treat you." He explained.
I was in no shape or form to turn down his help. I knew alot about the different infections that people could get from just watching the discovery health channel and reading books. I would accept anything he offered, especially a bath.
"Please." I said, my voice cracking from all the screaming I had done.
The moment I gave my permission the woman with the wavy brown hair was at my side. She introduced herself as Esme and then helped me to the bathroom where she helped me undress and get into the shower. I was glad the shower had a place where I could sit because I was so exhausted I dozed off to sleep for a few seconds while Esme was rinsing my hair.
After I was clean she helped my to dry off and then gave me a night gown to put on and then a robe to keep me warm. These people were so generous, so sweet, so nice. I would have to thank them for their hospitality.
I was so exhausted that I didn't notice when I was back in the white room until the doctor came over to me and began examining my wounds more thoroughly. I hear him murmer about me having a scar once I was fully healed but I didn't care, atleast now. I knew that once I was fully rested I would throw a fit because I didn't like scars. I was always careful to make sure I didn't risk getting injured to the point I ended up with one.
Then I felt a slight stinging feeling and looked down just in time to see the doctor pouring something clear on my leg. That was where the lion had clawed me. I wondered how bad it was but I didn't have the guts to look.
"Luckily you won't need stitches as they are all just flesh wounds." He began. I let out a breath of relief at his words. "Just make sure you keep it cleaned and covered but let it get some air while you are sleeping." He said.
"I'm so tired." I moaned before closing my eyes. "When can I go home?"
I heard the door open and in walked the short haired girl. I heard Carlisle call her Alice so I guessed that was her name.
"I called your house and got no answer so I left a message. I think they might be out with the search party." Alice said. As she walked over towards the door she froze. What was wrong with her? When she unfroze she turned to look at me and smiled. "But you sister should be on her way soon." She added before she slipped from the room.
That was very awkward. Alice was a very interesting girl. Just like Alice said Bella arrived. Escorting her into the room was Alice herself.
"I hope you found the place okay." She said.
Bella didn't respond but walked right over to my side and pulled me into her arms. She began crying as she held on to me.
"We thought you were dead." She mumbled. Leaning away from me she wiped her nose. "The search party found your ipod covered in blood and then a tuft of your hair with blood on the roots. We feared the worst."
Bella's cell phone began ringing and she quickly answered it.
"I'm on my way home." Bella said. She paused for a few moments before she spoke again. "I found her, she managed to find her way to Dr. Cullens house but she is alive." Bella paused for another few moments before she handed the phone off to the doctor.
"Dr. Carlisle Cullen speaking." He said formally. Just like Bella he paused for a few seconds, listening to the person on the other end of the phone. "She will be fine, I treated her wounds." Another few seconds of pausing. "Just a flesh wound to her scalp and a flesh wound to her leg. I am not sure how she got the wound on her scalp but the wound on her leg was made from the claws of a mountain lion." Carlisle paused again before he said goodbye and handed the phone back to Bella.
The door opened once more and in came the big buff dark haired male. He walked right over to me and lifted me effortlessly into his arms before we walked from the room. I wasn't sure where we were going until he placed me in the passenger seat of my fathers police cruiser. It was clear that Bella had used my fathers car to come and get me. I wondered if she would get in trouble when she got home. In the next minute we were on the road again and heading home.
When we pulled up in the drive I saw not just my father but several others as well. I didn't think I recognized any of them. When the car was shut off my door was opened and my father lifted me into his arms.
"You are safe." He said to me before we headed inside.
In the blink of an eye I was upstairs and being tucked into my bed. I was home, I was safe, I was clean, I was alive. The last thing I saw before my exhaustion took over completely was my father and sister.
