"Well, now that... that's out of the way... I just have one question. How could you hide this from us!" Sophie shouts as she leans over me to punch David's shoulder
"What the..."
"I can understand Ema since she doesn't really know us, and I can understand you hiding it from the pack. But even us? We even had lunch together! I thought I misheard when I heard you call her love. I can't believe you didn't say a word to us! We weren't supposed to have any secrets among ourselves. We're so pissed at you! Right, brother?" she asks and looks at Elias, but he avoids her eyes.
"Wait, you knew? The betrayal..."
"Alright, you drama queen. Elias only found out this afternoon, and I was gonna tell you tonight."
"As if..."
"I mean it, Soph. You know I wouldn't hide anything from you..."
Sophie rolls her eyes but smiles nonetheless.
"You must be really close..."
"Is that jealousy?" David asks with an amused but also hopeful expression.
"You know it's not."
"Must you say it so brutally? And yes, we are very close. Sophie, Elias, and I all grew up together. We're not connected by blood, but we are family. They're my brother and sister. And I hope you'll get along with them too. I saw you took a liking to Sophie already. I am glad you get along so well."
"Yeah, well... she reminds me of myself--"
"In what universe?" Sophie rasps out after choking on her water "I'm sorry, that came out wrong. But, like... you're more like my brother in terms of personality... actually, you two are so similar, you seem more like his sister and me..."
"Now. But I used to be like you--"
"What happened?"
A lot of things happened. No one can remain cheerful in those situations.
"So... where did you two run off today?"
A clear change of subject. I knew it. They knew it.
But no one said anything.
David said we should talk in the office, so we followed him.
The only people here were the trio, Caleb and I.
"Father, there are a few things about Ema that I can't seem to find answers for. I was hoping you might help us solve the mystery surrounding her."
"I am not sure how I could be of help. I don't know any more than what she told me."
I don't know any more than what I told him...
"This afternoon, we went to look at the archives."
"The archives? Why?"
"Is this about what happened at lunch?" Sophie asks
"Why? What happened at lunch?"
"Nothing that was my fault." Caleb throws me a look but doesn't say anything else
"Someone pissed her off at lunch today, and the aura she gave off... it was strong... really strong. Like, Alpha type of strong. We were all taken aback, and then, brother and David took off."
"So you think she's an Alpha descendant?"
"Not exactly. I'm trying to find her birth parents. That's why I went to look through the archives. But there were no reports on missing or abandoned children that year."
"And what were you expecting? I heard she's 20. I don't need to tell you the chaos from 20 years ago. Many wolves died... her family could've been killed back then. I am sure there were many orphans of war. Finding her parents, even if they were Alpha's... it's still a needle in a haystack."
"I am not looking for just any Alpha. I am looking for the very strong ones. She is no ordinary wolf. Ema's aura was frightening. She's a rogue, but she forced our pack members on their knees--"
"I didn't--"
"Yes, you did, love. Elias and Sophie are Beta's descendants, so they only kneel for their Alpha, but Elias said your aura was frightening. But the other wolves were on their knees... some even ran off. It even made me lower my head. I didn't even notice that I lowered my head and stepped back until Elias pointed it out later. Not only am I also an Alpha descendant, but I'm also your mate. Your aura should have no effect on me, just as mine has none over you."
I don't remember any of these...
"I see. Don't you remember anything about your parents, Ema? Something your adoptive parents might've mentioned about them or the circumstances and the place you were found?"
"I've already told David I don't know anything. I didn't even know I was adopted until I shifted. As for my adoptive parents... they only said that my father found me while out hunting. I was just a baby, a few weeks old at most. And, well... I don't know if this is of any help, but they did say I was found wearing a necklace. So maybe they could see the future? Is that a thing for werewolves?" I say while taking off my necklace to show it to them.
"No. Why is this necklace relevant?"
"Because it looks like me. Not only is my hair white and my eyes purple, but--"
"Wait, these colors are natural? I thought you were wearing contacts and dyed your hair..."
"Everyone does. Anyway, that's also how my wolf looks. White fur, purple eyes. So it's either hereditary or my birth parents could glance into the future."
"Ah... it makes sense now."
How so, David? I still don't understand anything.
But everyone here seemed to have realized something.
"Yes. It makes sense now. A wolf can be forced to its knees by a royal. And if her blood is purer than mine, then it would undoubtedly affect me despite the mate bond."
"That might be why she was left in the human world."
"No one will expect a pure-blood to be raised by humans..."
"Indeed."
This father and son duo are lost in their own world again.
"Explain to me, please."
"Oh, sorry, love. Have you learned anything about royals yet?"
"Sophie told me about them."
"That makes it easier. Upon taking the throne, King Andrew killed all the direct lineage royals who could threaten his throne. And to avoid rebellion, he also killed their families. So you are most likely a descendant of pure blood."
"What makes you think I am a royal?"
"I can't tell you anything about your eyes. They are unique. I've never heard of a werewolf with purple eyes. But pure white fur is a trait of the royal werewolves."
"Wait, wait! So, I'm like... a princess? A werewolf princess--"
"No, there's no way. A princess status is reserved for the direct royal lineage. And no direct lineage was born that year. If it were, there would be records, and Andrew would have stopped at nothing to find and kill you, no matter where you were hidden. But as a descendant, as a pure-blood, you would have no right to the throne, so you weren't a priority."
"And what is the difference between a pure-blood royal and a direct lineage? It all sounds the same to me."
"... I am not sure how to explain that... Father?"
"Queen Anastasia's father was the previous King Anthony. The direct lineage refers to King Anthony's direct descendants. His children, grandchildren, and so on. Pure blood refers to distant relatives. For example, Queen Anastasia's first cousin, Eleanora, was of a direct lineage. But she married a common wolf, so her child had only half royal blood. The child in question, Edwardo, was of pure blood. He had no right to the throne, but he still had pure royal blood. Edwardo couldn't take the crown from Andrew, but he could've disobeyed his orders. He was an inconvenience, so he was killed. And if Edwardo also had a child, he would also be a pure-blood. You must have a similar background. One of your parents or grandparents was from a direct lineage. Your parents were killed in the war. There is no question about that. As for you, someone could've taken you away, or your parents could've hidden you before they were killed. You were an inconvenience, but you weren't a threat, so no one bothered to look for you. Although, if you are found, you will most likely be killed, so just in the very low possibility, should you meet King Andrew, make sure not to disobey his commands."
This is so... f****d up.
Too much information for a day.
So, not only am I a wolf, but I also have royal blood.
And I wasn't abandoned... my parents were killed by a tyrant.
And should I meet the murderer of my family, I am supposed to obey this tyrant if I want to keep my life.
I can feel a headache coming my way.
