Rain began to cascade down the windows of the oversized building as Kara said goodbye to the last worker before she would be set to finish her daunting tasks left by Valerie. Not the kind to adore the creepy aesthetic, she found it rather odd at the comfort she felt while making her way to the basement to bring new sheets up to the rooms. The scent of laundry detergent filled the air around her as she carried the basket into the elevator while reminiscing about her time with Colby. There was something so sensual about the way he was when he was around her that joined with his charming persona which drew her in deeper and deeper with each interaction spent with him. As the elevator door came open, she pushed the cart out before hearing something hit against the outside of the glass doors. Ignoring it as a set of trees lined the front entering, she tried to focus on the tasks at hand; folding the sheets, before looking on the security monitor to see a figure in dark clothes-trying to look into the building. With it being downtown New Jersey, she never knew the type of character she would experience, but luckily, when the figure removed the hood that covered his face, she was able to see that it was Dean.
She unlocked the door from within before seeing him holding a bag of Chinese food within his soaked grasp. “If I know you, you didn’t have time to eat…” He spoke as she locked the door once more and led him to the desk while pulling up an extra chair. “And if I remember, your go-to food is Chinese?” She nodded, nearly moaning at the smell of MSG that made her stomach growl-making her realize truly how hungry she had really been. He set out a collection of containers marked with chinese symbols before pulling oyster pails that were stuffed with varied oriental-themed items.
“So this is the place where all the “magic” happens?” Dean asked while making air quotes with chopsticks.
“It’s disgusting...but the pay is so good.” She whined as he chuckled before stealing one of her crab rangoons. She then responded by taking one of his General Tso’s chicken bites. This continued with a comfortable setting as they spoke of her adjustment in the city and spoke as old friends-bringing up moments long forgotten until this very moment. “So how about a tour?” He finally asked as she picked up the last container, looking to the clock upon her computer and nodding to his offer. The truth was, being in this building gave her a sense of ownership as she worked in a place of great class-but also great secrets. Perhaps that had been the part of it that had interested her-or at least that was what she told herself to not make her such a sad case for remaining for some guy.
“So what is the most twisted thing you have seen so far?” Dean asked while they stepped off the elevator into the “minor suites” that were labeled with golden plaques hanging outside the walls with the numbers engraved within its lustrous finish. She used her keys set on the satin lanyard before showing him the inside of the rather posh yet smaller of the rooms offered.
“I spend most of my time within the laundry room and being told what to do by Val-but it actually makes the day go fast-aside from tonight-” She paused for a moment to lock the room back up and continue back to the elevator until reaching the buttons and waiting for the doors to open once more. While stepping in, she continued, “It’s crazy how the old me would have rather been homeless than taking a job like this-”
“It isn’t because of that guy...is it?” He asked the question he was desperate to know but eager to forget as he looked to her with anxiety behind a gaze that attempted to appear collected.
“No. I’m smarter than that-” She lied, knowing there was a portion of her that lusted for the job just to be around him. She hated how he had the ability to make her change from her prudish nature into one that walked a fine line between s*x goddess and well versed w***e. The thought sent electricity throughout her body as she was confused as to her own feelings, but found no time to pick through them as she was greeted by the chime of the elevator doors opening.
“What happened back home that made you decide to drop everything and come here? Not that I’m complaining, just curious-” he spoke quickly as she led him to another door and opened it to see him enter and look at the “medium suites”, these had been marked with silver plaques that had each room number engraved in its surface. She leaned upon the frame of the door while trying to think of an answer.
“I desperately needed a change...being back home was like being in a fishtank-everyone watching you and expecting you to do so much while being confined in a box they put you in…”
“Damn…” He spoke as he left the room and followed her into the elevator once more- and pressing upon the button for the final floor to the “luxury suites”.
“What about you? What has been new with Dean?” She asked as he gave her a bashful look before following her into the final type of room offered for guests-ones that had been present in all things expensive. Everything from the carpet set in the rooms to the toilet paper used had been highly lavish for a room used for less than an hour. But for what they paid for, it made sense.
“Working on a project right now in the city-some corporate building. I get to make the models of the places-it’s my favorite part.” She chuckled before bringing him to the balcony of the room as they could overlook the city bustling below them.
“Do you believe in soul mates?” His eyes lit up to her words as her gaze fixated upon the cars below and how they seemed a world away yet so close in the same thought.
“I believe in chemistry...I believe in love-but...only one person...no…”
“That makes sense-” As he spoke, there was a sudden shift of her focus as he tried to make the moment romantic by speaking her name. His body language screamed for his interest in her, but she neglected to notice it as she saw a figure moving to the front door from the aerial view.
“It’s Colby…”
Dean let out a sigh before finding her gaze to look at him with confusion.
“I’m sure he just left something...If you want to stay up here-”
“No, I’ll just go home-”
“You don’t have to-”
“No. I..I want to.” And just like that, he removed himself from the area before she had a chance to stop him. She took the stairs as the elevator was occupied and took her time down the endless steps before coming to the front door to see it left open by Dean’s departure. Excitement filled her as she opened the doors to see Colby standing with an umbrella-perfectly dry but dripping with s*x. She bit her bottom lip nervously before looking to him anxiously-waiting for him to speak or make a move-something to break the silence between them.
“Are you sleeping with him?” He asked so crassly as she scoffed to his ability to speak words so very brazenly to her. “I’m sorry...do you make love to him…” He spoke, removing his jacket as dots of water dampened the counter top.
“No. He’s my roommate’s brother…”
“Anyone else?”
“No. Not that that is something I have to enclose…”
“The way you talk...so intellectual...it’s cute.” He used his thumb and pointer finger to gently nudge her chin before moving to the empty chair that Dean occupied moments earlier. “You expecting someone?” He asked as he saw a figure moving towards the camera.
“Oh, Dean probably forgot something-” She moved to the door, absentmindedly thinking before the doors came open-a figure much huskier than Dean having forced his way inside, knocking Kara to the ground. Colby had managed to be directly upon his feet as he looked to the man, finding him to be present with an alcoholic fetor.
“I want to see her now!” The man mumbled, struggling to stand as Colby tried to understand the man as he watched him in his vulnerable state. “She owes me head!”
“Okay...that is no way to talk in front of a lady...I think you need to go get some rest-” The man didn’t hesitate for a second before trying to swing at Colby. The man would have been a challenge for Colby if not drunk as he was at least twice his size in weight-but Colby had a persona to keep up in front of Kara-one that turned her on to see.
The man’s back was forced up against the wall and Colby’s arm sat against his neck-outstretched from shoulder to shoulder to keep him still. “I don’t think you want me to call the police again...now go home!” He spoke without humor sensed anywhere within his tone as the man paused before pushing Colby off. Colby was prepared to defend Kara, but found the man to just kick a pot and break its delicate vase and disappearing into the night. As soon as he was gone, Kara rushed to the door and locked it before looking back to see Colby looking to her with concern.
For the first time since she had met him, she had seen a side of him that actually showed something other than selfishness-something more than being a playboy. To her, he was able to be more for her-at least, that was how she saw it. Due to this, her head began to spun and her heart began to race as she looked into his eyes and heard the words leave his lips that made her heart flutter,
“Are you okay?” She moved to him, nearly running before crashing her lips against his-not caring if anyone saw or how he would even react-she was just taken over by her desire to taste his kiss.
