Testing One's Ability

The Battle Gods exited the Estate and went to a somewhere open field. The vast landscape is good enough to demonstrate their skills.

This is the moment that Matthew has been waiting for. It finally comes. Along with him are his teammates watching at the back. It was far enough to not get caught in his skills.

Ethan was in the back and focused on his forehead, making the menu system appear. He appraised Matthew who was readying his staff and spellbook.

“Status”

He said simply in his mind and the status of Matthew in numbers appeared.

From a player’s perspective; this stat is three times larger than a normal player. Well thanks to him for being a whale in a game, he is considered super-geared in the game. Super geared refers to a player whose stats is insanely higher than average. Basically, it’s because of its divine class gears, divine class stigma, and divine class heraldry. Those three constitute the power level of each player.

As a pro-player, these stats were completely normal so that they can grind items easier whenever a new update comes.

As Matthew was preparing to test his skills, Ethan contemplated for a second. The reason why Matthew is the first one to test his skills or abilities is that he is a mage. Mages use magic and if magic doesn’t work in this world then so are they. But the fact that the Shugo said that instead of electricity running the appliances, magic did.

So, it was just perfect for Matthew to test his skills. If magic does really exist in this world, then he will be able to use his skill.

Everyone was standing, others were in a crouching position. Waiting for some display of magic.

“This is really turning into an isekai genre hahahaha” Jericho blurted.

“Quiet, there’s time for that.” Ethan chided. “Look it seems that he is ready to go at any moment.”

“Interesting…” Jericho replied as he let out a menacing smile.

“Okay guys, I’m going to do it!” He warned the rest, all the attention is now focused on him.

Matthew now summoned his staff which was faltering in divine light. He grasped his weapon and closed his eyes.

He is recalling all 400 abilities that an Oracle Mage has. An Oracle Mage class is a spin-off class of sorcerer class. It’s a jack of trade mage where he can use every affinity such as; Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Gravity, Time, Light, Space. At the moment of its release, it was the most created class ever in the game due to its versatility and mobility.

But there is also one problem; how can I use a skill?

Legends of AEON is a free-to-play MMORPG, it boasts a non-targeting combat and skill system. Meaning, if you want to use a skill, you had to line up your cursor with your target and press the shortcut you assigned it on your keyboard. Since it is non-targeting combat, your skills can either miss or hit. If it misses then it misses. That’s just how life works in the game.

Matthew had memorized all four hundred skills, as a pro-player. This is a must. He was not sure how to use the skills without a keyboard and mouse, but he had a faint idea of how to use magic.

It was a power hidden within him. Just like how the staff appeared and disappeared in his own will. It was a power willing to come forth if he calls it.

He channeled a jubilation in his heart — although his mood calmed quickly, he could still feel joy and excitement — in his hand, and spoke the words:

[ Fireball ]

An expanding globe of flame sprang on his hand, it was expanding exponentially along with the intense heatwave swirling around him as if he was gathering energy.

Fireball is just a basic spell and it has a size of a ball but this time it was not the same size — it was, if not forty, fifty times larger than a ball. He had to raise his hands up in the air to avoid being engulfed by the flame.

The fires spun faster and faster, gathering in one location. The crimson enormous ball threw off gusts of scorching air in all directions.

From the corners of his eyes, he could see his fellow teammates protecting themselves at an intense heatwave. The searing winds made his coat and their cape flap violently.

So intense was the heat that the moisture from the grass started evaporating and burning. If a normal person is beside him, they would suffer third-degree burns. But to him and his fellow teammates, they didn’t feel being burnt at all. Though there is some minor heatwave hitting their skin, it was not that of a big deal.

Then a time that seems took an eternity, Matthew burst forth his fireball.

Kaboom!

It caused a tremendous explosion. Even though it reaches a greater distance, the shockwaves and tremors can still be felt even at their location.

Everyone is now wearing a shocked face, including Matthew. There’s no way that a fireball can cause something like that, let alone producing a huge explosion.

“It was just a basic spell...and yet...yet...yet.” Matthew dropped lifelessly in the ground, he can still feel the lingering heat from the soil. It wasn’t because he was depressed, he was somehow happy. He grinned at the results.

“If this is a basic spell, then how about level 100 skills?” He is wearing a dangerous grin on his face.

Meanwhile, fifty meters behind his back, are his fellow teammates. Who was shocked after witnessing magic? Their expression is understandable, such phenomena that can happen only in fiction happened before them vividly.

Not to mention, the off-the-scale, fireball that he just cast. It was a level 16 skill and yet it caused a lot of damage to its surroundings. At this distance, they were able to see the impact. It created a huge crater and the ground melted and became similar to magma. Some of the places around it were even vitrified at the intense heat.

Matthew turned again and headed to his teammates. He flung his coat in a dignified manner and bowed.

“So, how was my demonstration? Did it answer your question?” That question was directed to Ethan, who was his brother, who was doubting if their magic and skills work here.

“I think you should’ve used the level 1 skill, I didn’t know that it can cause a lot of damage.” He said jokingly.

“Matthew, you really don’t have a brain, do you? You know that the weather is hot and you still cast fire magic.” Inigo mocked.

“Is this how you treat a person who’s older than you, Inigo?” Matthew chided.

“♪ Well, that is amazing! Amazing! Amazing! ♪” Aeyana jumped at Matthew and hugged him.

Matthew sniffed her hair and it was refreshingly fragrant.

“♪ The others are quite shocked, see? ♪ “ Even in this situation, she can’t even stop acting like an idol.

She simply pointed at the location where Ann, Samantha, and Angelica were seated. Calmly clapping their hands.

“You said that they were shocked right?” Matthew said dubiously to Aeyana.

“♪ Teehee ♪ “ She smiled teasingly at Matthew and then let go of him.

“ ♪ Captain! Can I test my skills as well? ♪ “ She shouted at Ethan who was speaking with the others indistinctively.

Ethan, without glancing at her, gives a thumbs-up, indicating that she can.

Thus, Aeyana positioned himself in battle stance, she readied her pink intricate design longbow and picked an arrow on her quiver strapped in her slender legs. She readied her longbow and pulled the string. She turned once more at Matthew and said:

“How do you use your skill?”

“Ah, you just need to picture yourself playing the game and cast the skill you wish to activate. I think that is the most efficient way, but for me, I only did it with my instinct.” Matthew briefly explained as he watched her in an elegant stance.

“♪ Okay, ♪ “ She said joyously.

She breathed in as she readied her divine bow, she imagined herself playing the game as she directed her mouse to her designated target. And then she breathed out, the bow answered her call and she released the string.

With a whoosh, dust flew off in every direction. The shockwave is produced by the string. It creates an ear-piercing noise as if the arrow just broke the speed of the sound the moment she released the string.

People are coughing as they wave their hands to remove the dust floating in the air. Everyone’s attention now focuses on her performance.

“ ♪ Success ♪ “ She jumps energetically in the air. Everyone was still dumbstruck by what happened.

“Hmm?” Jericho stood up and removed the dust that is sticking in his cape. He carried his intricately designed trident as he eyed the direction of the arrow was shot.

His eyes widened as he saw the aftermath of her arrow. As a pro-player, he knew what type of skills she used. It was a [Charged Shot ] a powerful long-range piercing shot. It was so fast that it was impossible to avoid unless you have a great reaction time.

The aftermath just now was a mountain at a distance. Judging from the distance, he believes that it is somewhere a hundred kilometers away. Her arrow just managed to create a gaping hole in the mountain. Looking back, she is a Sniper, a second specialization, a subclass of bowmaster. This skill “Charge Shot” Is just an upgraded and powerful version. The action time was reduced, the range of the shot increased, and the radius of the arrow increased.

“Okay, gather everyone!” Ethan called the rest as he clapped his hands, urging them to group up.

All of them are gathered, forming a circle, Ethan began speaking:

“Now, after we witness the skills of Matthew and Aeyana, we are now certainly sure that we can use magic. But I’m sorry to inform you that we cannot test everyone’s skills because the training ground now is scorched and ruined. I suggest that you find your own training ground and practice there as much as you like. This is our only protection from the threat so master your skills immediately. If I’m correct, not only did we acquire our avatar’s skills, we also acquired their strength and durability. We are in the body of a God’s now. So take care of your body like you take care of it in the game. Is that understood?”

“Yes sir!” Everyone roared at his message.

“Now, we return to the Estate and talk about everything we learned so far.”

Then, they prepared themselves to leave the place, but there is one man who is not preparing to leave at all.

It was a man with a staff, his coat fluttering in the wind smoothly. Samantha notices him and tries to approach him.

“Are you okay? The captain said we need to return.” Samantha inquired Matthew who was gazing at the ruined land, holding his staff tightly.

“I just need some fresh air,” He said softly.

Samantha tilted her head, questioningly. Does he have some troubles of some sort? She stands beside him and Matthew stole a glance at her.

Samantha is really beautiful. Her glittering silver hair fluttering in the gentle wind like a trail of a shooting star. Not only that, her wavy white and violet cape that twinkled like a star or galaxy fluttered as well. Looking closely, her avatar seems to be wearing a sleeveless silver dress adorned with golden accents and silver leggings that accentuates her firm thigh.

This was nice scenery until he destroyed it with his basic skill.

“Samantha, is this really our new world? I think everyone is starting to accept it.” Matthew said such a depressing word.

Even though he watches and reads an isekai novel and anime. He still can’t believe that they were really transferred in this world, not to mention, in their own in-game avatar.

Samantha only shook her head slightly at his remarks.

“You’re wrong, not everyone is capable enough to accept this new reality. They are just putting up some face. No one can accept such hopelessness instantly.” She said in a soothing voice like a sister assuring his little brother.

“Big Sister, what about our family in the real world? Will they be okay?” He asked, tears began to flow in his face.

Samantha laid her hands on his shoulder:

“Of course they would, but as the captain said, we just need to focus on ourselves first. I’m sure that our captain will be able to find a way back to our real world.” She said.

“Is that so? If you’re assuring me then it’s working a little.” He chuckled slightly.

“Stop sulking now, you will have the rest of the night later. Maybe it’s just a dream, tomorrow, we will find ourselves in our own bed hahaha” Samantha jokingly said.

“I do hope that works hehe” He let out a forced smile.

And thus, they returned to the Estate once more and gathered in a room that appears to be a meeting room.
