Ava's POV:
I chuckled, feeling her arms tighten around my waist while her minty breath brushed against my nose - we are that close. "Yay!" I fake enthusiasm while motioning my body around, but I was trying to wiggle my way out of her tight grip.
"I'll see you after class?" she asked.
"Oh...umm, that's lunch, and I want to sit with Trev," I replied.
She scratched her head, "Can I join Av?"
"You want to sit with us?"
She nodded, tapping the tip of her wedge against the tiles. "It's boring without you now, plus you all look like you're having so much fun."
"We do?" I question in disbelief knowing. Do we look like we were having fun? Trevon is still giving me death glares. Ben wouldn't stop shaking and inhaling my scent. Eli is sweet, but I know the boy got a motive. I'm talking about getting into my panties incentive.
"Sure."
With that single reply, Mary sat with us during lunch.
Ben is going to need another inhaler.
Ben shook his inhaler and took another breath. "You know, too much of those things aren't good for you," Mary said with a smile while bashing her lashes.
Ben shook the inhaler once more, but it didn't make it into his mouth before Trevon grabbed it. He threw it into his pocket, "She's right. Any more of this and we're going to have to call the ambulance."
Eli grinned deviously, "Anyone here knows how to do CPR?"
Mary raises her hand, "I do," she said before lowering it. "I took a class because my mom is a nurse. She said it's important."
Eli positions his chin beneath his knuckles. "So, let's say, Ben choke. Would you give him mouth-to-mouth?"
"Of course!"
Ben placed his hands around his neck and began to fake choke. With drama, he drops to the floor, causing all of us to burst into a roar of laughter. "I can see why Av wants to sit here. You guys are so funny!" Ben sat back on his chair, but the smile dropped when Mary lightly slapped him, "You're too much, Ben."
He places his hand on his arm, "Will you be my girlfr-" Trevon slaps the back of his head.
Eli shook his head, "So, are we all going to meet up at the theater, or does someone want to drive us all there?"
"Better for the environment if we all drive there together," Ben stated.
"The environment won't change because four teenagers decide to carpool to the movie theater," Trevon interjected.
Eli tilts his head, "And it has nothing to do with the fact that you want to sit beside Trevon's sister?" I gave Ben a suspicious look.
"O-Of course not!"
"Great. Then, we will ride together, and I'll sit beside this pretty lady." Eli wraps an arm around my shoulder. I looked up, only to see Eli gazing down at me, our proximity was too close for comfort. His thigh brushed against mine, and I couldn't help but swallow at the slight of his blemishes.
Mary coughs, breaking the odd moment. "Can I come?" She probably felt left out the whole conversation.
"Y-Yes!" Ben immediately replied.
Mary smiled widely, "What are we watching?"
Eli removes his arm from my shoulder, and I couldn't help but hold the space he left. "Aquaman," he spoke in a deep voice.
"That's from Marvel, right?"
Everyone was quiet...Oh, Mary.
"Leave this table," Ben said. I never saw him behave so seriously.
The day strolled past by me. Opening the fridge, I slammed it shut. "Milk," I hissed, twirling my body towards Trevon, who was sitting on the island with a bowl of cereal and milk. "You drank all the milk!"
He held the bowl closer to him, "You isolate and embarrass me in ninth and tenth grade."
I grunted, "How much time do I have to repeat it? I'm sorry!"
He pouted and sniffed his nose while shoving the spoonful of cereal into his mouth, allowing milk to drop down the edge of his lip. I rolled my eyes and tore off a piece of paper towel, scrubbing his face. "I'll go buy more milk. Stop guilt-tripping me."
For the past few days, Trevon has been guilt-tripping me for everything - from the last cookie to the clogged toilet.
He smiled in triumph when I grabbed the car keys. "I'm going to buy milk!" I screamed.
Upon entering the store, I threw up my hood while skimming through the list mom, dad, and Trev gave me. "Sure, parents and siblings. I'll pick up all this stuff. Don't worry about the young seventeen years old female walking at night...in the dark...all alone."
Walking down the aisle of the nearly empty store, I whistle along with the background music. Late-night workers began appearing, and I shook my head. "I need to graduate from college," I mumbled to myself, remembering how I decided to work right after high school.
I told myself that I wasn't smart enough for college, so I decided to work part-time at the local supermarket while living with my parents. Then, I wagged my tail and followed Luke not too long after.
Finally, I check off every item on the list. Pushing the heavy cart towards the cashier, I began unloading my stuff, grateful that there is no one at night.
"Av?" a familiar deep voice called.
I looked up, brushing the irritating hair from my face. My eyes widen, seeing the only person who laughed at my joke earlier today. "Hi!" I said.
His brown eyes twinkled as the melodies whispered in the background. "You don't remember my name, do you?" he chuckled lightly and began scanning my stuff.
I scratched my head, "Sorry, no."
He shook his head, "I'm hurt, you know. After all, we've known each other since elementary school."
My eyes widened, "We had?"
He sighed, leaning against the counter as the plain red shirt draped over his seemingly muscular arms, "Yeah. We were best friends, you know, until middle school?"
"We are?"
How bad are my memories?
"I'm s-s-sorry. I-I d-don-t re...I-I.."
He cracked out laughing, throwing his head back slightly as the tears brimmed in the corner of his dark lashes. "Chill Av. I'm messing with you. I transferred here last year."
"You did?"
He shrugged, "I don't blame you for not remembering. I don't hold much of a presence standing beside Luke," he spoke casually then rang up the total. "That will be 34.85," he said.
I nodded, sliding the debit card. Once I finished punching on the code, the guy handed me the receipt. "Have a nice night."
"You too," I responded, grabbing my bag. After a few steps, I stop walking and turn back. The guy was wiping the cash register, but stopped when he saw me. I held out a hand, "I'm Ava Makee."
For a mere second, his eyes seemed to be dazed pinning only at me. I swallow upon his intense stare, unable to breathe correctly. I chew on my lower lips as the corner of his lips tug into a steady smile until it reveals every tooth. He grasps my hand with his rough one causing a beat to skip inside my chest.
"Nice to meet you Ava Makee. My name is...Seth Carrillo."
