Chapter 10
“Russell Haven, you are hereby charged with involuntary manslaughter and a sentence of seven years in prison.” The judge punctuated his decree with the gavel. Rhys and I stood and watched them lead our dad away. He looked over at us one last time, then hung his head low as he shuffled along as best he could with the chains on his ankles.
Rhys and I took the bus back home in time to see Lee pull up in the driveway. He got out of the car and pulled us both into a group hug.
Then we all walked up to the house. I was about to unlock the door, but Lee stopped me. It seemed he had finally made a copy of the key Rhys had loaned him, so he used it to open the door, and when we got inside, he handed the old one back to Rhys.
