Chapter 6
I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I came to school the next day with a horrid headache and a stomach that threatened to puke my organs.
Marco did his best to help me, passing me water whenever I needed it and giving me crackers whenever he felt like I was hungry.
The whole morning was mostly me locking myself in the bathroom barfing away whatever I have eaten. I swear I saw things in that toilet that I ate when I was in middle school.
By lunch I was stable enough to actually stand up from the bathroom and wash my face by the sink.
I winced at my reflection from the mirror. I was wearing Marco's big thick sweater today. It's seen better days like my hair has. I pulled it up in a messy bun when I started puking earlier this morning. I groaned at my pale skin and my colorless lips.
This wasn't gonna get any better. No amount of makeup could save this face today.
Nonetheless I continued to wash my face hoping the cold water would help my pounding head.
Feeling a little bit better, I decided to meet up with Marco knowing he's worried out of his mind.
It took me only one step outside the bathroom when Bane Cohen decided to show himself.
I didn't notice him the whole day. I knew he was around and he probably heard my painful hurls.
I silently prayed to the Moon Goddess. Please let this be a hallucination. I did not need Bane f*****g Cohen the hottest boy in school to see me like this.
Of course, like she always did the Moon Goddess ignored my prayers and brought Bane to me.
I didn't look up but I knew he was watching me carefully.
Several long seconds later, a low powerful growl forced me to look up.
"What happened to you?" Bane all but snarled at me.
Bane looked furious but also worried as he took in my horrid appearance.
I hesitated looking around the halls. People were staring at us with wide eyes. "Nothing." I croaked looking down at the ground.
Goddess, I sounded like I got deep throated.
Bane didn't move from his spot which blocked me from running away from him. "Avery," He suddenly whispered softly.
My heart did a somersault at that. My skin was even prickling with glee. Body! Control yourself.
I looked up feeling the urge to hug him suddenly. "I'm okay. It's just a stomach ache." I tried to reassure him.
Bane didn't look like he bought it but didn't comment. I was already calculating the fastest way I could outrun an Alpha when said Alpha puts a hand on my shoulder.
I yelp in surprise as he guides me towards the cafeteria.
Not the cafeteria. The whole student body was there.
Marco was there.
"Where are you taking me?" I squeak hugging my huge sweater closer to me in hopes that the sweater would hide me from sight.
Bane grunts in annoyance. "Lunch."
I felt the blood leave my face. I'm positive I look even paler than I did earlier if that was even possible.
Bane Cohen's lunch table consisted of his high ranking pack members. That alone would scare any wolf.
I didn't wanna sit there.
His people already looked scary from a far I did not want to see them up close.
What will the other people think? This school talks a lot. I don't want to be the center of attraction. I prefer to be invisible. Please Moon Goddess, stop this.
The closer we got to the cafeteria though the more I felt myself losing consciousness.
I wasn't prepared when we entered the cafeteria as all eyes focused on us. Big, broad and powerful Bane Cohen holding a petite, fragile looking unshifted rogue.
I wanted to cry.
Bane didn't waste a second as he proceeded to drag me towards his table in the middle.
That table used to be where Charlie Andrews and his people sat. It was the best table and Bane didn't even need to say a word for Andrews to bolt and give Bane the table.
I brought my hands up to my face knowing my face was probably red with embarrassment now.
There was silence as Bane cleared his throat making me peek through my fingers.
My heart started to do its routine palpitations again.
I was brought to Bane's lunch table in front of his blood thirsty pack members. Actually, they didn't look scary at all. Yes, they were very pee-worthy intimidating but the way they looked at me was more welcoming than scary.
There were about four people in the table. Two breathtakingly beautiful girls that made me suddenly very insecure of how I looked and two burly figured boys.
My nervous were going out of control. I've never ever encountered pack members like this, much less the Golden Team.
It was a joke in the rogue world. The Golden Team is basically Bane Cohen's group of friends. The Golden Team is beyond intimidating and undeniably strong. The rogues made a joke out of the group of friends to make them less scary. Obviously, it didn't work.
The Golden Team as I heard from rumors are composed of daughters and sons of the the high ranking members of the Shadow Howler pack.
They were Bane Cohen's entourage. The friends that were basically royalty, just like Bane was.
"Avery," Bane called shaking me using his hand on my shoulder.
I brought my hands that were covering my face down and forced a painful smile.
What was I doing here? I was just an unshifted rogue. I wasn't suppose to even breathe the same air as these people.
There has got to be a law that forbids me from being this close to them.
To my utter surprise, the group of flawlessly perfect people returned my smile giving me a small wave of their hands.
Bane suddenly points to a gorgeous confident blonde girl with baby blue eyes who smiles at me brightly. "That's Samantha Harries." He introduces giving Samantha a nod of his head.
I already knew this people. Everyone knows them. It was impossible not to know them.
Samantha Harries is the daughter of the Shadow Howlers famously gorgeous pack doctor, Savannah Harries. Savannah Harries is the best friend of the late Gabrielle Bancroft, the last Alpha's Daughter.
Bane then points to the brooding boy sitting beside Samantha. He's -for the lack of a better term- s*x on legs. Dark brown hair, tanned skin and delicious caramel eyes. "Kaden Price." Kaden smiles at me though it was obvious he doesn't smile a lot.
Kaden Price is the son of the Shadow Howlers beta, Jake Price. Jake Price is the best friend of the former Alpha, Titus Cohen.
Goddess, these people are like werewolf celebrities. I'm captivated by them. I've never been this close to people this strong and known in the werewolf world.
Bane continued his introduction as he points to another girl. "Jamie Clark." This girl has red fiery hair and bright mischievous green eyes. Jamie looks to be the smallest in the group apart from me. She gives me a sweet smile and excitedly waves her hands.
Bane proceeds to the last person giving him a curt nod. "Jeremy Clark." This boy is tall with reddish brown hair and similar green eyes like his twin sister. Jeremy grins at me goofily.
Jamie and Jeremy Clark's father, Josh Clark is the best tracker in the world. Josh Clark is the Third for the Shadow Howlers.
I struggle to keep myself together as I bow my head low. I didn't even introduce myself knowing that these people don't need to know a petty unshifted rogues name.
The group stops at sudden action.
Oh my god. Did I do something wrong? Was bowing wrong? Should I have kneeled? I didn't think people still did that.
"What are you doing?" Jeremy Clark asks looking confused as he eyes me.
Bane looks down at me looking worried. "Are you sick again?" He asks his voice lacing with concern.
I shook my head keeping it down. "I'm okay."
"Kaden! Get her a bottle of water!" Bane barks sitting me down the table.
Kaden didn't need to be told twice as he dashes to the front of the cafeteria to buy me a bottle of water.
The remaining people in the table all jumped to me checking my pulse and my temperature.
I was shell shocked. These people... These people that are the most intimidating beings after their parents are checking my vitals like they care about me.
It's surprising for a rogue like me to be surrounded by these people. Yes, initially they could make you piss your pants with their presence alone but to witness them like this.
Being this close to them and the Golden Team fussing about a random wolf,
it was shocking.
Samantha was the one that stood in front of me with all her flawlessness. She was checking my vitals like a professional. "She doesn't seem to be in any pain."
I shook my head at them. "I'm really okay." I squeak almost inaudibly.
Kaden appeared then holding a cold water bottle. "Here, Bane."
Bane takes it and hands it to me. My cheeks are on fire as I take it with shaky hands.
This is humiliating. All these powerful people beside me like this.
"Thank you." I said looking up to meet everyone's eyes.
They were concerned that's for sure but they returned the smile.
"Must be the hangover huh?" Jeremy told me patting my back sympathetically.
I froze. For some reason I felt like Bane would not like hearing about me being at the party.
Just like I predicted Bane stiffened. "What?" I could feel waves of anger coming from him.
I gave Jeremy a pleading look which I hope he read as 'please don't talk anymore' but of course, he didn't notice. "Yeah, yesterday at that party I went to. I saw her there, she drank quite a lot."
My chest fell at that. I don't know why Bane reacted like he did but he was angry. "You're seventeen." He seethed pointing a finger at me.
There was an awkward silence. If a strand of hair fell right now, people would be able to hear it.
Samantha and Jamie laugh at this. "Oh please." Samantha said flipping her perfect silky blonde hair.
"How old were you when you started drinking? Thirteen?" Jamie added with a smirk as she crossed her arms.
"Twelve." Jeremy corrected with a laugh as he slapped Kaden who was drinking a soda.
Kaden coughed choking on his soda. He shot Jeremy a glare which Jeremy ignored. "Pretty sure it was eleven." Kaden said joining the argument.
It surprised me again. The way they acted around Bane like he was not an Alpha but just a regular guy in the group.
"Eleven?" I whisper with wide eyes, baffled by the young Bane.
Bane rolled his eyes at us which was so un-Alpha like. "That's beside the point."
"The point is he's proud you finally went out drinking. A bit disappointed that you're a late bloomer though." Jeremy tells me with a wide grin on his face.
"Don't encourage her, Jer." Bane pleaded closing his eyes in annoyance. A smile twitched at the sides of his mouth as Bane forced himself to remain in check and not fall to his friends humor.
The argument continued for several minutes. I was starting to loosen up to everyone's presence and they all were very kind as they laughed at my comments.
It was going really well. I was in my own personal bubble as I mingled with the Golden Team until I finally felt Marco's gaze.
I was covered by Samantha's big pretty hair and Banes brute of a body so I couldn't feel it at first. It was only when Samantha lunged for Jeremy did I feel it.
Marco was angry. Really angry.
He had the table all to himself today. Bottles of water and crackers were sprawled across his table. He was obviously waiting for me and I forgot about him.
The guilt was surreal. I didn't mean to. The Golden Team had me breathless and distracted that I completely forgot about him.
The bell suddenly rang bringing the argument to a halt and stopping Samantha from slamming her six inch heel down Jeremy's nose.
I thanked everyone and was about to make my way to the angry Marco when Bane stopped me.
"I'll walk you to class."
