Chapter 2

Chapter 2 In the cab's back seat, Jonathan and Marcos were finally on their way to the party, dressed in luxurious outfits of the most expensive brands one could find around their country as if they were the owners of the world. They were both talking about what the shareholders had announced to the press and how Jonathan was angry but trying to calm himself down about the whole situation. You don't have to be so angry, they must have hired some model to pretend to be with you at the most, and by the end of the night, we'll all be laughing at the whole situation." While silence now filled the car, Marcos tried to relax his boss. "My problem is the kind of mess it can become later, or don't you know it already? Imagine the snowball this whole lie could cause- Damn! I already have a headache just thinking about it." However, it didn't work very well, as Jonathan told him while paranoid, picturing how the whole disaster would be in his mind. "You're just being a little too dramatic, kid. Meeting new people might be good for you, and maybe she's a nice girl who can help you get out of that damn apartment for once." Marcos kept saying, smiling from his seat while thinking how nice it would be. Yet, as usual, Jonathan was going to say something not very nice to the older man, but he stopped himself when the vehicle's artificial intelligence system informed them that they had arrived at their destination at 1350 Goldilocks Street. ... A name a bit too childish for the young CEO, but which ironically matched perfectly well with the name of the neighborhood Tales... ''...They truly don't care about the storm, do they?" Seeing all the reporters waiting for them outside, Marcos ended up commenting to his boss, shifting his attention to something else before responding to his own comment. ''Luckily, the whole event will be in a covered area, preventing anything from spoiling your big night." "Whatever." And with just a word while rolling his eyes, Jonathan paid no further attention to that matter before they left the vehicle surrounded by several flashes... ... But they soon disappeared from their view, taking the staircase that guided them to a large garden with statues that reminded them of Greek gods and other mightily mythological figures... Both soon found themselves in the large mansion that looked more like a temple due to the antique-inspired architecture, besides how big the place was. ...However, it didn't prevent all the new stares from soon coming to them there. Especially to Jonathan, who preferred to pretend that they didn't see him as their prey, all eager for a night in his hotel room if he would allow them... But while forgetting about this for a moment... The yellow painting of the walls that turned to golden-like color with the lighting of the chandeliers was possibly one of the biggest attractions of that place when he started to greet the shareholders that were already there. ... Fake smiles adorned his face all the time until he was eventually alone with his secretary once again... ''...Is it just me, or am I only seeing human waiters here?'' Curiously, he ended up questioning the older man, watching the entire party from the corner of his eyes as he pretended to be admiring one of the paintings on the wall. ''This is Faust's house, and you know how he is. He's one of those old men who believe we'll all be killed by technology someday.'' With his eyes carefully scanning the hall to see if they hadn't forgotten to greet anyone important in the room, Marcos answered him discreetly, hiding his mouth behind the glass of champagne. ... After all, the last thing he needed was for something he said to become a news headline instead of Jonathan's words the following morning... Faust wasn't only their mayor but also a curious man from the point of view of the town's residents, someone very peculiar with his tastes. He always attracted attention for liking to collect the most expensive pieces he could find from the ancient world, as well as due to his intriguing repulsion toward technology. ... Therefore, it would be bad to talk about him for sure, even worse when this person was a resident of Sky City, who represented everything he hated... Or a simple employee of said person. “Hey, little buddy! How are you?” But, as a loud voice called out for Jonathan, using a nickname that he quite disliked since he was anything but little, the young CEO took a deep breath before turning around when his peaceful and quiet moment ended with the arrival of Maximillian Richaellis. ... The man, who was relatively older, yet liked to think of himself as young, was one of his major shareholders and someone he couldn't avoid no matter how much he wished to... "Hi..." So, it was all Jonathan said to the man with a fake smile followed by a forced handshake. "I was looking all over the place for you, but who would have thought I would find you hiding out here?" Such a comment was completely sarcastic as everyone who worked with him knew about the CEO's discreet personality. "But in any way. There's something, or rather someone, I would like to introduce to you." Pulling his hand back, Maximillian gave space for someone to show up between them. ... A woman who was as beautiful as the statues in the place, and that no one could deny she seemed to have been made in a computer as she was as pretty as CG... "Gentlemen, I would like you to meet this gorgeous lady. Miss Erica LeBlanc."
