Nola
I was trying my best not to get too distracted by Kylan sitting next to me. His scent was intoxicating. I don’t know what is going on with this beautiful man and me! He has been plaguing my thoughts since I ran into him in the coffee shop. The moment he turned to face me, I lost all my senses. Those eyes did something to me. They lit a desire in me in a way I have never felt. I have never had a man have such an effect on me. It is sort of freaky.
I expected not to see him again. I believed he would just be one of those men who you run into once and then don’t see again, but you wonder what would happen if you did see him again, a fantasy of sorts if you like. I didn’t expect to show up at my parents’ house, and he would be sitting on the damn sofa and for him to be my father’s new business partner. It all seemed strange.
It has been a while since I have been interested in any man. I swore off them for a while because it doesn’t ever seem to work out for me. Finally, I got fed up with the same assholes, heartbreak and cheaters. I convinced myself I was better off without them. And now Kylan shows up, and my attraction to him was instant, but I can’t have him.
My dad would kill him if he came anywhere near me. My dad has strict rules on things like this. Anyone who works with him or for him isn’t allowed to get involved with his family, especially his daughters, because he is overly protective of us. It isn’t like that matters, though. Even if it had nothing to do with my dad, Kylan wouldn’t be interested in someone like me. I am sure he dates the type of women you find on runways or ones alike. Plus, something tells me he would be trouble. I sensed trouble in him, darkness in what way I don’t know.
“Kylan, shall we go and do some business?” my dad asked.
“Sure,” Kylan replied.
My dad and brother stood, heading out first. My brother will play a massive part in the new hotel chain, so he will be joining him. RJ will probably be working more with Kylan than my father.
Kylan turned to me, and the moment I caught a glimpse of his eyes again, I swallowed hard. I swear it seems like he can see straight into my soul.
“We aren’t done yet. I will see you again soon, Kitten,” he whispered and brushed his fingers along the side of my thigh.
I bit my lip to stop a moan from escaping from them. The feel of his touch on my skin is enough to make me shudder. Kylan smirked, stood and then winked at me before going to follow the others. I was glad that my mum and sister were preoccupied talking and didn’t notice what had happened.
Kitten? Why did he call me that? I watched after him and checked out his ass as I did. He had a nice ass, a nice ass indeed. I licked my lips and finally pulled my gaze away from him.
Get a grip on yourself, woman!
I don’t even know him. He shouldn’t be getting to me this much, this strongly. Hopefully, as the day passes, whatever my hormones are doing with ease off. Although, maybe because I haven’t been intimate with anyone in a while, that will not be helping matters, either.
“Shall we start getting things organised?” I asked.
I needed a distraction for a couple of hours! I needed to stop thinking about Kylan for a couple of hours.
“Yes, we have a lot to do,” mum smiled.
I stood quickly and headed for the kitchen. I love cooking, so it will be an excellent way to busy my mind.
“Nola, sweetie, are you OK? You seem…distracted,” my mum asked.
“Yeah, I am fine,” I smiled.
“And there was me thinking it was Kylan distracting you,” Paris smirked.
“Nope!” I replied firmly.
Paris raised a brow at me. I don’t think she believed me, but I was sticking to my work, even if it wasn’t true. I turned away and started getting to work.
Today is going to be an interesting day, if nothing else.

I was in my old bedroom getting changed. I brought a dress with me to change into for the BBQ. I didn’t want to put it on before I came because I knew I would be cooking, or I would probably have spilt something on it since I am such a klutz.
I had stripped down to my underwear to put my dress on. Suddenly, the room door opened. I turned around.
“Paris, you could have…oh, you aren’t Paris,”
I was met with Kylan standing there, not my sister. I quickly covered myself up with my arms.
“Sorry, I was…um…looking for the bathroom,” he breathed out.
“Two doors down,” I whispered.
I felt the heat rise on my cheeks with the way he was looking at me. He was trying his best to keep his eyes up and on my face, though every so often, I saw them dart over my body.
Silence came between us, but neither of us seemed to be moving. We were staring at each other, the look in his eyes intense. I took my lower lip between my teeth, biting on it, something I do when nervous.
“Can you not do that, please?” he groaned.
“Uh?” I asked, confused.
“Stop biting your lip, Nola,”
There was a sternness to his tone when he said it.
“Nervous habit,”
“I need to go, right now,” he said quickly and rushed off.
I stood there, confused. What the hell? What was that all about? Surely me biting my lip can’t get to him that much. What is it about guys liking that so much? I don’t see the sexiness to it at all. Maybe that is just me.
I groaned in frustration and slipped my dress over my head. I checked myself in the mirror and fixed my hair. I reached behind me, trying to do the zip of my dress. Why did I choose a dress with a damn zip that I can’t get? I don’t think I thought this through.
“Goddammit!” I huffed.
I will need to get my mum or Paris to get it when I go downstairs.
“Do you want me to get that for you?” I heard from behind me.
Kylan was back.
“No, it is OK. I will get my mum or sister to do it,”
“Why when I am right here? Do you really want to go downstairs with your dress unzipped in front of the guests?” he laughed.
“OK, then,” I whispered.
He came over, took his place behind me. He rested his hand on my back. I closed my eyes over, a small whimper falling from my lips. He slowly zipped me up, his fingers caressing my skin as he did. I opened my eyes and saw him in the mirror looking at me, a look in those gorgeous eyes I couldn’t work out. But, it was enough to make my pulse race.
“Kylan, why, why are you looking at me like that?” I stammered out.
“Like what, Nola?”
His tone had a seductiveness to it.
“I don’t know,”
He stepped in closer to me, his front against my back. He placed one hand on my hip, and his lips fell at my ear.
“Do I make you nervous, Nola,” he whispered.
“Yes,”
“Is that because you want me?”
“I, I don’t know what you mean,”
He used his hand on my hip to turn me to face him and brought me to his chest.
“Yes, you do, kitten,”
He stroked the hair away from my eyes. I was doing everything I could not to break under his touch.
“Even if I did, it wouldn’t matter,” I panted out.
“And why is that?”
“Because men like you don’t go for women like me, and my dad would kill you,”
“One of them you are wrong about, Nola,”
“And which one would that me?”
“Work it out, sweetness,”
He pulled away and walked out of the room. I stood there, my breathing heavy and more confused than ever. Surely, he didn’t mean that he was interested in me. But, the other option I said, about my dad killing him, that was true. So, it only leaves the one.
I took a moment to calm myself before making my way downstairs before someone came looking for me. Some of the guests were already here. I stood up straight, smoothed my dress out, put on my best smile and headed outside to join everyone else, ignoring Kylan’s eyes watching after me.
I believe it is going to be more difficult than I first thought to try and avoid Kylan. However, I have a feeling he isn’t going to let it be that way. I shouldn’t worry too much, though, because if he valued his life, he wouldn’t make things evident with my father around.
I got this! I will keep telling myself those words until I have convinced myself of them.
