Jia strapped a gangster’s rifle over her left shoulder. It was convenient that the enemies were using rifles with straps, but she wasn’t going to complain if Emma wanted to throw them a mild advantage in the otherwise ridiculous scenario. Erik tossed aside an empty rifle. He’d decided to defend their current position using borrowed weapons. They’d fought for a couple of minutes, with increasing numbers of gangsters closing on their position, made easier by the pair’s purposeful slow walk toward the first set of stairs. “Do it,” Erik ordered. “Comms and cameras killed, but local security bots are still active,”
