The Agent stood rigid in the center of the room, taking slow, deep breaths and waiting for his encrypted communications link to be established. Any operation involved complicated variables for success, and he always did his best to account for them, but he couldn’t ignore the potential risk to the primary operation by situational changes that now threatened his mission. Another failure might be tolerated by his employers, but he wouldn’t accept it. The Core’s plans must succeed for the good of humanity.
Julia’s hologram appeared, a lazy smile on her face. “I wasn’t expecting you to contact me so soon. You’re fortunate that I’m nearby. I did anticipate you might need further direction and arranged for that.”
