" What the f**k?!" The words escape my mouth before I can filter them.
I cross my arms against my chest, looking Josh in his eyes. He audibly swallows thickly before opening his
mouth to speak.
" On my way here, I went to see Mom. She hugged me, and that must have left a stain," his voice is
smooth, but my angry expression is unwavering as I ask sternly.
" Are you cheating on me?"
Josh looks shocked; he closes his eyes momentarily, then opens them
" I swear to the moon, Mother, I'm not. You can call my mom if you wish," he sounds agitated now as he
tries to get the phone from his pocket.
" Why would I cheat when I love you so much!" He continues while pressing numbers on his phone. I
take a deep breath and look into his eyes. It is Josh, the guy I've known since I was seven. I take his phone away and sigh.
I cup Josh's face.
" Are you telling the truth?" I ask, looking into his eyes.
Josh kisses my lips softly,
" I love you. I'd never even think about being with another," he pulls me into an embrace and whispers
in my ear.
" Josh, I don't know what I'll do if I ever find out you've been unfaithful. My heart wouldn't bear it,"
" Don't doubt me, please," his voice is kind, and I wrap my arms around him.
During the rest of the night, everything was magical. Unlike I had thought, Josh took me on a candlelight dinner
date. The food was delicious and so tasty.
He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear and smiles.
" You're beautiful," I'm blushing like crazy right now.
" Thank you," I whisper. Our conversation flows naturally and freely, just like us. Josh is more relaxed than he seemed in the earlier hours.
His phone chimes, and I glare at it again.
" Who keeps texting you?" I ask. He has been receiving a lot of messages.
"It's just work, baby," he says with a smile, then turns it off completely. Josh is finishing his business degree next month, yet he works at my father's company. Dad thought it was a good idea for him to learn about the company since it's affiliated with the pack. I didn't want to study business administration, I
I want to be healthy just like my mother, so I did that, and this year, I'm in my last year.
" How is work?" I ask, and we discuss how business and studies work. I go to a local university just here
in the pack as well.
Josh seems enthusiastic about taking over, while I worry about whether I'll make a good Luna for the pack. Human lunas are unheard of.
Later in the night, Josh kisses my cheek and drops me home.
" Thanks for the night. It was fun,"
" I had a good time," he opens the door and motions me in.
I start to walk but he doesn't follow. I turn and ask
" Are you not coming?"
" I'll sleep with my parents. I have to discuss something with my parents," he says. I smile and proceed to
my room.
After freshening up, I lie on the bed, just thinking.
The night was perfect, but my heart didn't feel right.
I keep tossing and turning in bed.
I get out of bed and walk to my balcony.
I close my eyes and inhale some fresh air in my lungs.
After a long silence, I hear a long-familiar howl, and my heart starts to pound louder against my chest; the last time I heard it was four years ago... The rogues attacked and... killed my mother.
