Chapter Fifteen

Ruth's POV: I felt my face grow hot and a shiver went up my spine as Alastair shoved his face into my crotch. His hot breath could be felt through my leggings as he sniffed me. Dropping my prop knife, my hands went to his head to push it away with little success. I needed him away from that area before he realized that he was turning me on. Yet I was completely embarrassed that he was putting those kinds of moves on me in front of others. At least I was doing a good enough job to not make a sound that was too s****l. Then the damn beast bit me! It wasn't much of a bite due to how tight the leggings were, yet I still felt his teeth against my clit. That was when I bit down on my left thumb to not let anything other than a whimper out. Alastair growled before rubbing his nose against that same spot. I squeezed my thighs against his head in hopes he'll stop as I bite down hard enough on my knuckle to draw blood. I had enough! Grabbing the rubber dagger, I moved to hit Alastair on the head before Stephon and Preston moved in to pull me off of my so-called mate. So I tried to kick him in the nose instead, only to have Stephon grab my feet while Preston had my arms. “Damn mutt! I ought to throttle you!” I watched as Alastair sat up and licked his smirking lips before winking at me. “Let me go, Teach!” “Go cool off in the corner, Slugger. You can have him the next time around.” “Alastair, you're the gamma of the pack. Behave like it,” scolded Preston. I was finally let go and I flopped down onto the ground with my legs and arms crossed. Nothing like being put in time out by the teacher. After a moment, I looked across the sparring ring at Alastair who still had that stupid smile on his face. He then pointed down towards his crotch and I realized something. I wasn't wearing dark enough leggings. That damn wolf got me so aroused that I was certain that my leggings were stained. So I quickly changed my sitting style so as not to expose my shame. I then flipped Alastair the bird which only made him smile more. He mouthed the words, “I would love it if you did.” That caused me to blush once again. I just couldn't win with this guy. The training continued with the other pairings until it was my turn again to square up with Alastair. I was ready that time. No more fancy tricks. He was going to go down and do so hard. Alastair got into a similar stance as before and I stood still for a moment, scanning his every feature. I was looking for a tell, weakness, or flaw that I could extort. He was a wolf and not to be taken lightly for any reason. Hearing Stephon start counting down, I closed my eyes and decided to tap into that special ability that I had as a hunter. Once my teacher called out, “Begin,” my eyes snapped open as I moved towards my target. My movements and speed shocked Alastair as I got in close. His wide stance and momentary lack of concentration have me enough time to stab him in the spleen before twirling to his right so I could get behind him. My next two targets were his kidneys. Then I got the back of his left knee to cause him to buckle. Twisting his left arm behind his back, I forced Alastair to kneel in front of me. My right hand, holding the rubber blade, went to his throat so as to completely immobilize him. “And finished,” called out Stephon. I released Alastair, letting him fall onto his back as I headed back towards the edge of the ring. “What was that,” shouted Alastair. Was he seriously butt hurt over losing to me? “I'm with Alastair on this one,” spoke Preston as he advanced towards me. “How were you able to move like that? That was faster than a normal human.” “Right, you guys aren't used to real hunters are you,” I asked as it dawned on me. “Back in the day, those in the hunter factions had the God’s Blessing cast upon them.” “I didn't realize hunters were Christian,” mumbled the Alpha as he rubbed his chin. “They aren't,” I stated before i decided to explain. “Churches go after demons and devils whereas hunters go after the supernatural. The God's Blessing is bestowed upon a faction from any God of any mythology. Aries is the God that blessed the faction that Stephon and I came from.” “But I thought you two weren't part of the faction anymore,” asked Alastair. “And why have we failed to see this from current hunters,” inquired Preston. “We aren't entirely sure,” stepped in Stephon. “There are a few ideas but we are unable to ask in order to get answers. All we know is that The Great Curse changed many things for hunters.” “So everyone in your party has this ability,” Preston asked with hope in his eyes. What were his intentions with the use of my ability? “No,” I replied. “Only the few of us that escaped Anthony's faction have Aries's Blessing. The rest do what they can with training or their natural abilities. That's why I have witches and other supernaturals with me, in order to give us a bigger advantage.” “Any idea how many of Anthony's people are blessed?” I had to stand there thinking about Preston's question for a moment. It had been a while since recon was last done on Antony and the others, as I didn't see them as big of a threat to my group as the others after my head. But if the numbers were the same, meaning no new recruits and no deaths, then the number of Blessed were low. “I would have to say less than a fifth of his forces. And not all have faced off against supernaturals so I'm unsure of how well they can use their abilities. And before you ask, they are all the same. Increase in speed, sight, hearing, and dexterity. Nothing to the level of a supernatural, but better than the average human. Anything to increase our survival rate against a shifter, vampire, or fae.” “So that's why hunters were such a threat to us before,” muttered Alastair behind me. “Hunters were greater threats when they worked with a coven of witches. There is a long history of hunters and witches working side by side, all for personal gains.” My words made the wolves all turn and look at Clover. She smirked at them all before shrugging. “I never would have worked with a hunter until I met Ruth here. Her mission was different from the usual factions and I believed in it.” “But what is your personal gain,” the Alpha pressed while narrowing his eyes. “Free magical ingredients and freedom to experiment as I please,” she said proudly. All eyes went back to me, like I was the mad one. I let out a sigh before explaining. “She doesn't experiment on anyone who isn't willing. And they are fully informed of what to expect. Clover mostly does medicines and salves. Anything to help with injuries when fighting. Her team has even branched out to herbal teas and incense to help calm those we've rescued. We use them during sessions or whenever they are feeling anxious. My biggest thing is that she doesn't blow up her lab.” “One time, I did that one time! When will you let it go?” That was when the others from my group stayed singing that silly children's song just to get under Clover's skin. “That's enough from the peanut gallery. See that I don't heal you lot the next time you get hurt,” she threatened. That made most of us there laugh. “I think we'll end training here for the day,” stated Preston. “I'll want Gregory and Stephon to work together on a new training routine between our groups. Your people need to learn how to fight with us and my pack needs to learn how to fend off this blessing of theirs.”
