King Gerald's Pov
Gerald was relieved to learn that Zeila was leaving for her pack. His wish was that she would remain in her pack and never return. Blade, his wolf, was wreaking increasing chaos in his mind, to the point where it was nearly hard to control his wolf. Because she and her wolf wanted him, he wanted his mate. He cried out over and over that the only thing standing between them was Gerald.
They were alone themselves for a lengthy twenty-six years. He did, of course, occasionally have one-night stands or flings over Blade's objections. He isolated himself from him during his adventures, but it didn't make the experience any less enjoyable. However, they had not anticipated a second opportunity mate.
