Piper headed in the opposite direction of Joel as he started for the police station. She followed the beach road as it wound along the Atlantic Coast, displaying beautiful mansions scattered wherever there was enough land to accommodate their size and surrounding property. In between the mansions, it wasn’t unusual to find small beachside cottages. Some were guest homes for the estates, while others were vacations spots for the snowbirds that returned every winter to enjoy the beautiful beaches.
