The Plan

Abruptly an idea flashed through my mind, I bit my lips and pulled myself out of Layla’s embrace, and cleaned my tears with my palm. “I’ve got a plan and I would be needing your help” I mumbled gazing at Layla with hopeful eyes. “Tell me anything, you don’t need an excuse to ask for my assistance we’re besties and I’ll always help out” Layla caressed my hair and uttered, I beamed “thanks Layla, I love you” I kissed her cheeks, “I don’t want this engagement” I asserted, she knitted her brow, “I thought you didn’t have a say in this, wait! Don’t tell me that you’re planning to run?” She asked with a confused gaze. “Something that looks like that, I want to leave for New York and I want you to help me do that” “What! How is that possible? Aunt and uncle would die of anger” she gripped my wrist startled. “I’m damn serious Layla, I can’t stand marrying someone I knew nothing about, I’d choose the man from last night to him” I uttered with a flared nose trying to stop myself from snapping. ‘Since the both of them chose to push me to an arranged marriage, they should be ready to lose their only daughter’ I said to myself with my mind already made up. “Since that’s what you want, I’ll assist you with it. However, how do you plan to do that?” She inquired. “I have a lot of money saved up in my private account from New York, no one knows about it, with that I’ll be able to leave for at least five years” I mumbled, breathing heavily. Layla hissed and tapped on my shoulder, “this is not what I meant! How do you plan to escape from your parents and the city?” My lips formed into a thin line as I thought about what Layla had said, a smile crept up my lips as I found the perfect solution for this, “drive me home first, we will talk about the rest at home” she nodded quickly and jumped down from the bed. She rushed into the washroom and came some minutes later dressed up with a blue crop top and black denim jeans. “Come b***h, get dressed” Layla threw the clothes to me. I sauntered into the washroom and quickly dressed up, recalling that the Hayes would be at the Princeton mansion for the proposal makes me shiver in fear, ‘I need to get this done with!’ I let out and immediately stepped out of the washroom. Layla was already waiting for me standing next to the door with the key to her favorite Ferrari. At the Princeton mansion, Mrs. Princeton was seen walking around the living room with a worried look. She had been calling my cell phone but got no response, ‘where is Aurora? The Hayes family would soon be here and she is nowhere to be seen. This girl is going to send me to an early grave.' She walked towards the front door hoping to see me walk in through the gates of the mansion. “Isn’t she back yet?” Adrian Princeton stepped out of his study and strode to my mum who was already pale from panic, he had been on the phone with Mr. Hayes who was also his best friend, “They are already on their way, I just spoke to Nate” dad muttered gazing towards the gate. “Honk honk” Layla's horn blares at the front gate of the Princeton villa, I clenched my fist as my breathing increased. Immediately Layla drove into the villa I felt my heartbeat thrumming in my chest, ‘let this plan work’ I mumbled a prayer and glanced at my best friend who was sitting beside me. She nodded at me and unlocked the door, and we stepped down from the Ferrari together and made our way towards the door of the villa that is widely open. “Where have you been, Aurora, didn’t you know that Hayes' family is coming today?” Dad asked with a straight face, I looked at his face and sighed, ‘this is not the father that I know, who doted on me a lot. He won’t think to destroy anything that makes me unhappy, seeing him ready to give me away to Hayes grandson just for a simple agreement made by the old patriarch of both families twist my heart’ look away from him as I thought to myself, I was silent as I was without a word. “Hello aunt Nova, uncle” Layla greeted them with a smile. The awkwardness in the air soon dissipated, “how are you, my girl? It’s been quite a while” Mrs. Princeton embraced Layla and patted her back. “You’ve grown into a beautiful woman just like our Aurora,” Mr. Princeton said with a smile. I huffed and muttered slightly. “Thanks, uncle, I’ll take Aurora to her room” she muttered, entwined our arms, and pulled me up to the glass stairs. In a minute I was already in my room, I strode the chest in my closet. Type in the four-digit code and took out the document and card for my private account in New York, I placed them into my mini Gucci handbag and stepped out of the closet. “What’s next, have you gotten everything you would need?” Layla sized me up, I nodded in response and showed her the documents for my private bank account in New York. “What about your daily necessities, ain’t you taking some clothes?” “No, that’d be suspicious. Mum and dad have their eyes on me and won’t want me to act impulsively, taking clothes from my closet would spoil the plan” she nodded as she immediately understood everything. “Now, go down and tell my mum that we need a new outfit for the occasion, you’d like to take it to the mall.” “Right away” Layla snapped her finger and took her to the living room where the Princeton couple were waiting for me. “Aunt Nova, Aurora got no new clothes to wear. What about I take her to the mall to check out some new clothes she could wear to impress the Hayes grandson” Layla said with a convincing smile. Mum and dad stared at each and nodded in agreement. ‘Anything that would make the engagement passive’ dad thought to himself and called on the guards. “Boss Princeton” Jaden asserted as he appeared in front of dad. “Take the two Misses to the mall, make sure they come back in one piece” he ordered, Layla's eyes were already wide like saucers as she didn’t expect dad to assign Jaden to follow us to the mall. ‘Damn! This doesn’t seem nice’ she said inwardly. Layla faked a smile when caught a glimpse of mum and dad on her, “I’ll go get Aurora now” she said and ran up the glass stairs. “We’re doomed, Rora! Uncle assigned Jaden to follow us to the mall” I was surprised when I heard that, I already knew that dad wouldn't feel at ease if I left the house alone. So I have already come up with a plan to match up with him. “It doesn’t matter, we should get going before they change their mind” she nodded confusedly and walked next to me as we made our way down the glass stairs.
