I blinked twice when I saw Mrs. Princeton standing at the door with a broad smile, “mom” I squirmed and ran to Mrs. Princeton who couldn’t contain her excitement, seeing her only child after four years is a very big deal to her, I ran into mums arm and tightened my grip around her.

“I missed you so much mum, I can’t believe I did this, I thought I won’t be able to stay away from you this long” we both stared at each other with mist in our eyes.

“Madam Princeton, lunch is ready” butler Ray uttered with raised lips while he watched us mother and daughter duo having the time of our lives. I flinched, chuckled, and recovered from my trance, my eyes passed the shoulder level of mum and stopped at Mr. Princeton who was stepping out of his study room. “Dad!” I screamed and ambled towards my father with a bear hug, “come on lad, the old man is too frail that he could lose balance if you continue to hold him like this” Mr. Princeton said gazing at me with a glint in his eyes, he has always doted on me and would do anything just to see me smile. Adrian Princeton who was my Dad gripped my wrist and brought me to the dining hall for dinner.

“Look, your mother made sure that all your favorites were prepared by Ray” Dad smiled at me as I was already drooling, immediately everyone settled down in their seats I picked up the cutlery and started stuffing my mouth with the food on the table. Nova Princeton giggled watching me bite down all the food on my plate like I have been deprived of eating for so long.

“Wow, uncle Ray, your culinary skill is still superb. Even the seven-star restaurant in New Jersey couldn’t compare to you” I said to butler Ray who was standing next to the table.

“You flatter me, Aurora, eat up your food and rest. It’s been a long journey” Ray responded, I flashed him a smile and continued to eat. The Princeton couple had a bit of the food on the table and left the rest for me their glutton daughter.

“Yes, dear, your father and I have something to say to you hurry up and meet us at the lounge on the terrace” I paused and stared at my parents confused, I bit my lower lip thinking about what they wanted to say that couldn’t wait till the next day, “uncle Ray, can you come over for a while?” Raymond arched his brow and strode to me, “what does the young Miss require?” I smacked my lips and carefully placed the cutlery on the plate.

“Mom and dad, what do they want to speak to me about? I think they’re acting all weird, like how are you expecting a talk after I just returned?” I have always been close to Ray, he has worked for the Princeton family for thirty-five years which was why I could speak freely in front of him.

‘This is a hard one, Aurora is like my own daughter. How can I tell her that the young master of the Hayes family is coming back today and their marriage is being planned by the elders of the family?’ A flash of distress flashed through his eyes knowing that I had resented the proposal since I found out that I was engaged to the son of Nate Hayes in childhood. Ray hopelessly smiled and shrugged his shoulder, “dear, I had no idea. I think you should eat up and find out the issue, however, I’d advise you to be ready for anything”

‘So mysterious! What could they be plotting?’ I was excited and nervous that I couldn’t continue with my meal, I got up from the seat, gulped down the last drop of the orange juice, and headed to the terrace.

At the terrace, the two couples were seen with mugs filled with coffee in their hands, each one of them thinking about how to break the news to me. Adrian Princeton has spoken with Nate Hayes earlier, and the two concluded on sealing their years of friendship with the engagement between their children which was proposed when we were kids.

I stepped onto the terrace and was startled when I saw Adrian and Nova having a coffee on the chilly terrace. 'We just had lunch a while ago, they have such an appetite,' I walked to an empty seat and sat down with a loud thud, the Princeton couple only noticed that they had another company when they heard the thud.

“Did you enjoy your lunch?” Nova asked me, I flashed a smile and nodded in response. Nova shot Adrian a glare and breathed heavily before continuing to say “it’s about your engagement dear, we have decided with the Hayes to proceed with the marriage alliance between two families, they will be coming during the weekend for a formal proposal. Their son has accepted the engagement, what do you think about this? Remember, this is for your good” the smile on my face froze, ‘a childhood engagement’ that’s nonsense, I had never taken it seriously because I believed once we're adults we could decide for ourselves, but it seems like they’re still latched onto the past. I made up my mind to reject the idea just like always, I'd always thought of falling in love, being with the one I love, and not being in an arranged marriage. I looked up at the couple whose faces had traces of nervousness and chuckled, “mum, dad, my thought remains the same. You both know how I hate arranged marriage, I can’t be in such a relationship that was arranged by my grandparents when I was still a child and had no idea about it” I said calmly, watching the reactions of my parents.

“You don’t have a say in this, you’re getting married into Hayes family and that’s final. Prepare for that” Adrian muttered after taking a deep breath, he never wanted to hurt my feelings but this is between both families, and it would be of great assistance in the business sector if both families are joined by marriage. Although the Princeton and Hayes families are well off on their own they could dominate the world and the business sector if both families are joined in marriage, the people would tremble at the mention of both families that was the thought of the old matriarch from both families, ‘getting stronger in friendship and dominating the world together’ I scoffed and stood up from my seat.
