This sudden intrusion startled me, I looked up at the intruder, only to be shocked again. Xander was standing in the doorway, his presence sent a ripple of surprise through me, for I hadn't expected him to return. He looked baffled and hesitant. "Xander," I said, taken aback by his sudden change in demeanor. "What brings you back? Is everything alright?" His hand rubbed the back of his neck, a nervous tic I hadn't seen before. "I...
