Chapter 2

Skylar's POV "Sky, come on." Jasmine said, looking at me over my desk. She was lying on the floor in my office trying to convince me to go out. I didn't care that it was my birthday or that I hadn't ever gone out for my birthday. I was so focused on taking down the Kingdom. They killed my father and they overtook the council. Something he was a member of. "Jasmine, I've got to get more information. Our attack date is too close." "Come on, it's your birthday, don't you want to go out, get a little tipsy and take home some good looking man to knock out the cobwebs. It's been how long since you've been laid? It might make you think more clearly," she whined. "I get laid whenever I want. I'm not going out. I have to go over the video footage I have." "You're staring at a dark screen trying to see their routes. Now I'm right there with you. I want this too, but you also have to live a little." "I will live when the person responsible for killing my father is dead." "You don't even know who did it, just that they are at the Kingdom." "I know, and I am going to figure it out." "OK, well you can figure it out tomorrow. They aren't going anywhere, and I want to celebrate with you. I'm not stopping until you go out." "Fine," I huffed out because I knew she wasn't going to give up. "Give me an hour to get ready." I told her and pushed away from my desk. We weren't necessarily a pack like everyone else. My father formed it when the council decided to disband and give the power over to some old kingdom that they had done away with a long time ago and pushed them up into the mountains. They were some freaks with a weird gene that gave them two wolves. My father told us the truth about them and how they would kill anyone who went against them. He had to run for his life that night. That is also when he met my mom, his mate, but she died giving birth to me. She was a rogue, and he saved her from a life of poverty and fighting. They quickly moved up into the high mountains and gathered any rogues that wanted to go against the Kingdom. That's where they started and they quickly grew. Due to not being a normal pack, they had to move to a town where there really weren't other wolves and act human. It worked until they could get their own companies started, and now we have work for all of them. We don't have a pack house or any type of beta or gamma. I took over when my father died. I was sixteen. Jasmine's dad helped me a lot in the beginning. He was my dad's right-hand man. Now we have two hundred and fifty people that are a part of our pack. My father made three attempts at trying to take them down. The first two were unsuccessful and all it did was show that they needed to be more prepared, and the third, I'm not really sure what happened because he hadn't told me anything about it. He didn't take everyone with him either. I was told that he had called for a sneak attack, and they moved in quickly and quietly and all was good, but they were outnumbered, but my father wanted to kill the King and Queen and someone took him down just as he was about to sink his teeth into the king and the rest of the pack retreated and came back here. I was never able to recover my father's body. He never got the funeral he deserved. He was the best father. He was always there for me, teaching me how to be a leader, and to take charge and to know how much the Kingdom has taken from us. I wiped the lone tear that had fallen and worked on washing my hair. I try not to think of my father too much because I will always cry when it comes to him. He was the only family I had left in this world. Stepping out of the shower, I wrap a towel around my body and my hair up in a towel and go to my closet. I didn't have many clothes to go out in. It's not something I did often, and so I quickly pulled out the tightest pair of pants that I own and a dark blue crop top and my favorite pair of boots. Black combat boots. I threw everything on my bed and went back to the bathroom. I pulled out my hair dryer and got started on blow-drying my long blonde hair. It was always up in braids, so wearing it down always felt weird. "You know she is right," my wolf, Brielle or Bri, as I called her, linked me. "What is she right about?" "You work too much. You should be out having fun." "I'm going out tonight." "Only because she begged you." "Does it matter, I'm still going." "Just do me a favor and loosen up and have a couple of drinks tonight. It's your birthday. Put all your stress away and have a good time." she said. "I will." I said, and she finally retreated to the back of my mind. I finished getting ready and slipped into my clothes really quickly and grabbed my purse and walked out of my room and went and found Jasmine sitting on the couch. "Oh, no, you can't wear that, follow me," she said, getting up from the couch and pulling me to her room. She lived with me. She moved in after my father died. We were both teenagers, but her father was next door, and it was better than living with them. I was a little surprised that he went for it, but I wasn't going to move out. "Now, I have this red dress that would be amazing on you. Get those frumpy clothes off," she said, walking into her closet. "My clothes aren't frumpy." I yelled at her. "Yes they are. You wear jeans and a shirt every day of your life," Bri linked and I just ignored her again. Jasmine came out of the closet holding what I would call a slutty dress, but she calls it cute. I can hear her already, and I know that no matter how hard I try not to wear it, she will tackle me to the ground and put it on me herself. I pulled my shirt off and kicked my boots off and pulled my pants down and ripped the dress out of her hands. I pulled the dress over my head and tugged it down over my ass. It barely over covered my ass or my t**s. It was v-cut in the front, bright red and skin tight. "Seriously Jas, don't you have anything a little longer?" "Nope but I do have these amazing shoes," she said, holding up a pair of stripper heels in black. "You can't be serious." "Dead serious. You can't wear your boots with this dress. Please consider it a present." "It's my birthday, I'm supposed to get presents, not you." "It's my present for you." "What to dress me like a stripper?" "No, making you look hot. Now put the shoes on, we are late," she said, tossing the shoes at me. I put them on and stood up. There was a reason I didn't wear these. They killed your feet and I didn't walk that well in them, but the less I argued with her, the sooner I could get her there, the sooner I could get home. We walked into the club and the lights were flashing, and the music was blaring. We walked up to the bar and Jasmine threw her credit card down and opened a tab for us, "I'm buying tonight," she said and then turned to the bartender and ordered our drinks. A minute later she turned around and handed me my scotch. I tipped my glass back and drank the whole thing in one go. My throat instantly burned, and my body shivered at the feeling. I placed the glass down on the counter and turned to Jasmine. "OK, I see what kind of night it's going to be." she said, downing whatever she had and getting two more and then pulled me away from the bar. We weaved our way through the dance floor and to the back of the bar and when we got to the last corner, everyone yelled "surprise," and I jumped, throwing my hand over my heart and spilling a little bit of my drink on my hand. All of our friends were there. "Seriously, you planned this?" I asked Jasmine. "Of course, my girl needed a night off and what better way to spend your birthday than with your closest friends," she said, and then took off and started talking to everyone. "Happy birthday," Braden said as he came over to me, he then kissed my cheek and whispered in my ear, "you look amazing in that dress." "Thanks," I mumbled as my face flushed red. I wasn't used to comments like that. I didn't date or really do anything with boys because I was too busy planning our attack on the Kingdom, but tonight I was going to take the compliment and see where things went. It wouldn't be the first time him and I have slept together and Jasmine was right, it had been too long. I downed the rest of my drink and Braden was quick to tell me he was going to get me another and headed off to the bar. I went and sat down on the couch and talked with our other friends. It was going to take a lot of those drinks to get me drunk. I should switch to wolf liquor, and then I would get that buzz I needed. "I'm so glad that Jasmine got you out. We've been planning this for a while now," Lauren said, and gave me a hug. "Me too. I guess I didn't realize how much I needed this," I said, and when I looked up, Braden was there with my drink. I could tell that it was Wolf's liquor. I wasn't sure if he could read my mind or what but this is what I wanted. I drank it slowly really feeling the burn of it. "Come dance with me," Braden said as I finished the last of my drink. He held his hands out to me and I placed mine in his, and he pulled me up and steadied me as I stumbled a little in these damn shoes. "Are you sure it's not the drinks you've had?" Bri asked, but, per usual I ignored her. Braden pulled me to the dance floor and my back was pushed up against his front as we let our bodies move to the beat of the music. His hands roamed up my sides as his lips moved to my neck. I let my head fall back on his shoulder as he started to kiss and suck on the place that made my knees weak. "Let's get the hell out of here and we can celebrate your birthday," he whispered and when I pushed further into him I could feel how hard he was. If he knew how wet my panties were right now, he wouldn't have even asked that question but dragged me out of instead. "Did you drive your car?" I asked and I felt his head nod against me and then he grabbed my hand and we ran out of the bar.
