Kairos and I try desperately to reach Naomi and Ruby through the mindlink. After her last whispered answer, there was nothing but silence. ‘NAOMI!’ I scream and feel despair creep up. I drop to my knees and bury my face in my hands. I ignore the commotion around me.
“Magnus,” Max’s familiar voice says as he touches my shoulder.
I look up at him through my tears. He is a bit bruised and bloodied but otherwise okay. I blink my eyes. “They took Naomi,” I whisper.
“Wait, who took Naomi?” Max asks as I rise to my feet. I look over at Mrs. Helfer. She is still lying in a pool of blood, but she is still breathing. Max notices her. “MEDICS!” He bellows, and two show up. “Get her to the hospital.” He orders. “Now, tell me who took Naomi,” He says.
