Danielle heard movement outside her door. Someone was coming in. Panic slammed into her instantly, making her body run both hot and cold in a one beat. She barely had time to get off the floor and wipe her face before the door swung open and her eyes locked with her brother’s in the doorway. She knew her eyes were bloodshot red and puffy from lack of sleep and all the crying. Her nose probably looked like a clown’s as well. The clothes she had on were yesterday’s and they were wrinkled like she had slept in them, which she actually hadn’t done, but pacing in them all night hadn’t helped.
