A homecoming chapter, part one: things in motion

Homecoming was coming, and the brothers kept talking about it except for Parker. Any time they mentioned the subject, he would avoid it. I didn’t understand why? I would like it if someone asked me since I have never been to a dance.
I stood in the hallway and looked at the poster taped to a wall, announcing homecoming.
“Another stupid dance,” I heard someone mumbled as I turned to see Parker standing next to me.
“What’s wrong with a school dance?” I asked him.
“Everything is wrong with them,” he said as we turned and started walking. “You spend all this money to go for a few hours and hope the person you go with doesn’t suck.”
