CHAPTER SIX

Alyana was invited to a restaurant by her friends for a get-together. Alyana wasn't surrounded by many friends because she wasn't beautiful. She just had two close friends, Jane and Miya.

"Alyanaa, over here" she saw Jane waving at her.

"Hey girls", Alyana said, hugging both girls joyfully. If not for Jane and Miya, Alyana would have gone through the trauma of bullying, she loved both girls equally.

"How have you been, Alyana, you look lovely dear," Miya said, holding Alyana's hands.

"Miyaaa just insults me directly, it's better than going through the corners."Alyana said smiling at Miya.

"You never accept a compliment Alyana, so how have you been? What's new in your life."Miya asked, sipping her drink.

"Well nothing new, Camilla and Papa are okay and I just opened a new deal with the company. I have my chocolate and pastries shop, and you are invited to the opening."Alyana responded.

"You know if not that you're our friend, I won't believe it if anyone tells me you are a workaholic. Don't you want to get married and have kids, don't you feel lonely and alone?"Jane asked Alyana, looking concerned.

"Alone is not necessarily lonely," Alyana replied, looking away.

"Your work won't keep you company on those lonely days and nights Alyana, family and love will keep you company dear," Miya said looking at Alyana with concern in her eyes.

"Not all women need men in their life to make them happy and I am happy with Camilla and papa in my life, I don't feel lonely, "Alyana answered back, looking away.

"Enough with this talk, I am not the only one who has an achievement, how have u guys been"with just that Alyana changed the topic but still their small discussion ran through her mind.

After the dinner with her friends, she told the driver to take her back to the office.

As the driver arrived at the office, he told Alyana he had arrived and she thanked him before dropping out.

Alyana was on her way to her office when Secretary Sabrina told her someone dropped a package for her.

"Ma'am excuse me, you have a package from mister Oliver Rodriguez, he said you will know the rest if I told you his name and give you this package," Sabrina said

"Okay Sabrina, thank you, "Alyana said, collecting the package.

Entering her office, she dropped her bag and unpacked the chocolate samples on a tray, and headed to her papa's office.

"Good Afternoon dad, I just got the chocolate samples from the chocolatier I chose today," Alyana said, dropping the tray in front of her father.

"Okay that's good, I hope it's great. I know you won't disappoint me dear" Mr. Edmund replied, picking one of the chocolates and bringing it to his lips.

"Hmmm, some of the chocolate I will be tasting for the first time and I would admit it has a unique flavoring," he said munching on the chocolates

"He knows the way he flavors his chocolate papa"Alyana replied

"Well, is he a good person, dear?." Mr. Edmund asked looking at Alyana.

"He seems hardworking, I think he is brilliant, unconventional, and daring, he makes his chocolate flavors unique even though he didn't attend a culinary school, I know he has the immortality and passion for chocolate. I think he's the one."Alyana said with confidence.

"Okay then Alyana he is hired, we can talk to the rest of the board members later and you can also invite him to your shop so that the tasting panels can have a taste of his chocolate to be sure we made the right decisions."Mr. Edmund said

"Okay papa, I will do just that, thank you" she replied before pecking him goodbye, and then she left his office smiling like she just won the lottery.

Alyana entered her office smiling, she took the card Oliver gave her the other day and called him.

"Hello, am I speaking to Mister Oliver Rodriguez?." she asked.

"Yes. May I know who I am speaking to."Oliver asked also.

"This is Alyana Edmund, I just called to ask if you are available because I will be stopping by to drop you the contract, you've been hired to be the chocolatier of the chocolate shop," she replied excitedly.

"Seriously Alyana, Thank you so much, and yes I am available and expecting you," he replied smiling like a weirdo.

After Alyana cut the call, she took her bag and left for Oliver's place. On arriving she went straight to the door.

"Hello," Alyana announced. Oliver heard her and quickly went to the door to welcome her in.

"This way Alyana, come in." he motioned her in.

"I won't be staying long, I just came to drop the contract so you can sign it," she said without entering.

"You didn't have to come all the way here just for this," Oliver said before collecting the contract from Alyana.

"It's nothing Oliver, your place is near the office anyway, Good day to you Nanay. Sa"Alyana greeted Oliver's grandma.

"Good day to you Alyana, please come in, why don't you join us and eat?." Nanay offered Alyana.

"No please Nanay, I don't want to bother you I have to get going"Alyana declined innocently.

"Come on Alyana, I insist you join us. My grandma rarely does this. It will make her happy if you joined us" Oliver said praying she said yes.

"Alright" Alyana let out

"Great," both Nanay and Oliver said at the same time, happy that Alyana joined them.

"This smell good? Who cooks?"Alyana asked.

"My grandson did, he cooked everything," Nanay replied proudly.

"Please have some more, "Alyana said, serving Nanay.

After everyone was finished, Oliver took Nanay to her room to tuck her to bed while Alyana cleared the dishes. Oliver came out from Nanay's room looking tired.

"Is Nanay asleep already?"Alyana questioned Oliver.

"Well yes I just tucked her in but she's having trouble sleeping because of her diabetes"Oliver explained to Alyana.

"Oliver, I didn't put away your plate because I noticed you barely are anything. Would you like to eat again, you might get sick if you don't eat enough so come on" Alyana said gesturing to him to sit.

"This looks so good, here you go, "Alyana said, serving Oliver some food on his plate, she noticed the weird look Oliver was giving her and that was when she knew what she was doing.

"I am sorry, it's just that I am used to serving my sister and my father before he married my stepmother Lucille," she explained

"It's okay Alyana you don't need to explain, it just feels so different because I have never had anyone take care of me," Oliver said looking at Alyana.

"I didn't know you could cook, where did you learn?"Alyana asked, trying to clear the air.

"I learned from my mother, she was a great cook"Oliver replied.

"Your mother must be really special, I know she must be proud of you because you put to good use everything she taught you, "Alyana said.

"Yes when she was alive, but then she passed away when I was sixteen years old" Oliver replied.

"I am so sorry, how about your father?"Alyana asked again.

"My stepfather, I would say, didn't get along with him after mother passed on. Sometimes we argue and end up in a fistfight so I decided to take Nanay and reside in a small town."Oliver replied Alyana calmly.

"That is something else, you were so young back then but you survived those hard days, I am sure she is proud of you because you grew up well, "Alyana said smiling.

"It wasn't easy Alyana, I applied for a job from various companies but when they found out I didn't graduate from college and didn't attend a culinary school, they refused to accept me for the job but you accepted me regardless of that. You accepted me when others rejected me and I am so grateful for that because you gave me hope Alyana and I owe you so much" Oliver said, moving close to Alyana's seat.

"You don't owe me anything Oliver, I gave you the job because you deserve it. You're talented, fast, neat, and know how to take care of your workplace. You are a very talented chocolatier so don't thank me at all."Alyana replied

"But what you have given me is more than a job, you have given me a chance to prove myself Alyana."Oliver s

"I need you at the company, the company needs you Oliver so stop saying you owe me anything because you are doing me a favor as well, "Alyana said standing up to leave.

"I have to get going now, I hope to see you at the cafe tomorrow, "Alyana said before leaving.

"See you then, And be safe," Oliver said before closing the door.

Alyana just couldn't wait to start working with Oliver without knowing that Oliver was also excited and couldn't wait for the next day.
