Chapter 3

Erika's Pov I sighed deeply after the flow of memories in my mind was interrupted for the second time. A fondness appeared in my eyes as I stroked my child's cheek. I thank God that He didn't let me lose my child. Six years ago, I almost miscarried after Jane spoke with me. My friend rushed me to the nearest hospital because I was bleeding. Thankfully, I was brought to the hospital immediately, so the miscarriage of my child was prevented. After that incident, I decided to go to Canada to start a new life. I couldn't move on if I didn't leave. I didn't want to put my child's life in danger again, so it was better for me to live in Canada. My godfather's family, who are based in Canada, helped me. I stayed at their house and their youngest child took care of Rose while I worked. I kissed my daughter on the forehead before I stood up to leave her room. David might be getting impatient waiting for me. David Wilson is the CEO of the Wilson Company, which was only established last year, and is my business partner. Although the Wilson Company is still new to the business world, it is slowly gaining recognition and building a name for itself. David was a close friend and classmate of mine in college. We met in Canada at an event, and he offered me a business partnership with the company he was planning to establish. I knew his capabilities, so I didn't hesitate to accept his offer. Upon I arrived back in the country a week ago, I accepted the position of Director at Wilson Company. As I stepped out of Rose's room, I immediately went to my own room to get ready. It was still early, and the venue of the party we were going to was nearby, so I still had time to prepare. I chose to wear a backless tube red dress that went just past my thighs. It made my fair skin look even brighter against the color of my dress. The neckline was a bit low, revealing my cleavage, but it didn't look like I was going to seduce every man using my cleavage, so I just left it as it was. I slipped on my red shoes with two-inch heels, making me appear taller. I styled my hair in a bun but left a few strands to fall loosely around my cheeks. After applying my makeup, I turned to face the mirror. A smile spread across my face as I was satisfied with my reflection. I needed to look smart to secure investment for our new project. The party we were attending was filled with big-time businessmen, so we couldn't miss this opportunity. Suddenly, my smile faded as the thought of possibly seeing Charles at the party crossed my mind. He couldn't miss these kinds of gatherings. I clenched my fists tightly. To this day, I still haven't forgiven him for what he did to me. While I was in Canada, I saw a news article on social media about Charles' wedding being called off. It was just a headline, I didn't bother clicking on it to read the full article. The news of Charles and Jane's breakup made me realize that maybe he just played with women. He never took any of us seriously, not even one of his girlfriends, because he didn't know how to love. But the news was good for me because it helped me finally move on from him. My life with Rose in Canada has been good. If only David hadn't offered me to be his business partner, I wouldn't have chosen to go back to this country. "Wow! My best friend is absolutely stunning. You're going to blow everyone away at the party," Raven said, beaming at me as she entered my room. I smiled back sweetly, shaking my head to clear my thoughts of Charles. I shouldn't be thinking about him, he's not worth it. So what if we see each other at the party later? I know that someday our paths will cross again, especially since we're both in the business world. If we see each other tonight? So be it. "Of course. Would I let other beautiful women outshine me at the party?" I joked back, laughing along with my friend. "Alright, you take care of your godchild and I have to go earn a living." "Don't worry about your daughter and just enjoy the party," Raven quickly replied. After spraying my favorite perfume, I left my room and went to the living room. David stood up from his seat when he saw me coming down the stairs. "Good evening, beautiful lady in red," he greeted me with a smile. "Good evening to you too, handsome man?" I replied, complimenting him. I no longer felt awkward when he complimented me because I was used to hearing them from him. He didn't just compliment my physical appearance, but also my dedication to my work. "I'm sorry if I made you wait so long. Rose was being clingy and wanted me to put her to sleep," I apologized. "It's okay. It was worth the long wait because I saw a goddess descending from heaven." I just laughed at his remark. David had a playful side when we were alone, but he was very serious when it came to work. That's why he was able to gradually introduce the Wilson Company to people because of his seriousness and dedication to his job. I didn't pull away when he held my elbow and guided me out of the house. He wasn't just good at business, he was also a gentleman. He opened the car door for me before circling to the driver's seat. "We need to find investors so we can finally start our project, David. I'm sure it will be a hit with people once we succeed," I told him as we drove to the party. "You're right. All we need are investors to get this big project started," he agreed. The big project we're referring to is what we call AI Face Reveal. It's an app that can be connected to computers, cellphones, and CCTV cameras linked to cellphones. With the help of AI Face Reveal, people can see the faces of individuals who are covering their faces. Many people will benefit from this project once it's completed and successful, such as law enforcement officers, store owners, big or small, and banks. It can help reduce robberies, hold-ups, and many other criminal activities where perpetrators remain unidentified because they are wearing bonnets, hats, or other face coverings to conceal their identities. When we arrived at the five-star hotel where the party was being held, we were greeted by two hotel staff who escorted us to the function room. "I'm nervous," I whispered softly to David as we stood in front of the function room. He gently squeezed my hand, which was clasped around his arm. "Relax. I'm sure you're the most beautiful girl in the party, so don't be nervous. You're with me, remember?" he said to me in a soft voice. I simply nodded and smiled at him in response to what he said. When the two hotel staff opened the large door, the eyes of all the guests in the function room were fixed on us. It seemed like we were the last to arrive, so we had everyone's attention. I secretly smiled. This was good, at least someone would notice us. Who knows, maybe one of the potential investors for our project was looking at us. I immediately scanned the room, searching for potential investors. But instead of finding a prospective investor, my eyes landed on the last person in the world I wanted to see, and now he was staring intently at me.
