Chapter 6

1284 Words
Erika's Pov I just sat quietly in the passenger's seat while riding in David's car to my house. Until now, I still can't get out of my mind what Charles asked me earlier. He wants me back? For what? To hurt me again? I'm angry at him. He hurt me. This is what I have ingrained in my mind and heart since he betrayed me. I should only feel anger towards him. But when I heard his question to me earlier, my heart suddenly jumped from its place. It suddenly beat fast. It's as if my heart woke up after years of being asleep. I should have frankly told him that he had no second chance to expect from me. That is what he wanted would never happen. We can never be together again. But instead of saying that to him earlier, I suddenly became tongue-tied. It was as if I lost my tongue and couldn't speak. I just turned my back on him and left without a word, then I asked David to take me home. I took a deep sigh when I thought about how Charles became my boyfriend. My mind traveled back to the past where I first saw and met him. Eight Years Ago, I had just arrived from school when I noticed the fancy car parked in front of our gate. I thought that maybe my parents had visitors today. "Bye, Erika! See you tomorrow," Raven said with a smile as she bid me farewell. We always went to school together. My parents were busy, so Raven's driver would pick me up in the morning and take me home in the afternoon. Our house wasn't out of her way, so it wasn't embarrassing even though my friend's driver picked me up and dropped me off at school every day. "Bye, Raven!" I waved with a smile as I watched my friend's car drive away. I entered the gate after our maid opened it for me. "Where are Mommy and Daddy?" I asked the maid. "They are at the library. They were talking to a very handsome visitor," our maid replied excitedly. "Their visitor is super handsome. Oh my gosh! My panties almost fell off earlier when I opened the door for him and then he smiled at me" she added in an extremely thrilled voice. I raised one eyebrow and suddenly became curious about what the maid said. Is my parents' visitor really that handsome? When I entered the house, I just left my bag on the couch and then headed to the library where my parents talking to the guest mentioned by the maid. I saw that the door of the library was open, so I thought they might not be discussing business matters, which is why they left the door open. I could go inside to check if the maid was telling the truth or if she was just exaggerating "Our shares," said my Daddy as I entered the door. Those were the only words I heard when I entered, and I didn't know what they were for. "Hi, Dad. Hi, Mom," I greeted my parents with a smile. I approached them and kissed them on their cheeks. "Why did you come home early today, Erika?" my mom asked me curiously. Usually, I come home when it's already dark because Raven and I hang out first before going home. "Our last subject finished early so we got home early. Also, Raven's family has gatherings so we didn't hang out," I answered my mom with a smile. "It's good that you're here, Raven. I would like you to meet Charles Evan. The CEO of the company where your Mom and I work," Daddy said to me as he introduced me to their boss. Only then did I look at my parents' male visitor who was standing close to me. When I lifted my gaze to see Charles' face, I felt like the world momentarily stopped spinning and he was the only one my eyes could see inside the library. My heart suddenly beat faster as if something wanted to escape from within my chest. Charles' deep, chocolate-colored eyes were staring intently at me. He had a prominent nose and it was evident that he had foreign mestizo blood. His slightly parted lips were red and there was a small dimple on his left cheek that added to his charisma. He was also tall, but since I was also tall, I didn't need to look up to see his face. I thought that our maid was right. She was not exaggerating when she said that my sister is very handsome. For the first time in my life, I learned to admire a man. I immediately had a crush on him. Could this be love at first sight that I'm feeling? "Hello, Erika. I'm very pleased to meet you," Charles greeted me with a smile. Even his voice is alluring. I admired him even more. "Hey! Are you with me, Erika? You seem to be deep in thought?" I was startled in my seat when David suddenly snapped his two fingers in front of my face. The flow of memories in my mind was suddenly cut off. "I'm sorry, David. I think I just got tired from the party," I reasoned with him. "I think you were too affected by seeing the father of your child again, Erika." I sensed a hint of sadness and jealousy in David's voice when he said those words. "I'm sorry, David," I apologized to him again. Was I too affected by seeing Charles again? I shook my head. No. I am no longer the teenager who was overly stunned the first time I saw and met him. After Charles and I met, he frequently came to our house until he admitted that he wanted to court me. He courted me for only three months because I immediately said yes. I liked him too, so why would I prolong his courting of me? We had been in a relationship for a year when my parents died together. They were victims of a hit-and-run After my parents were buried, I discovered the agreement between my parents and Charles when I arranged the papers inside my father's library. My parents would give their shares in the company to Charles after we got married. Although I was hurt when I found out it was just a contract marriage, I still hoped that Charles would truly love me. And I was happy because I felt that he really did love me. One week before our supposed engagement, I signed papers stating that I voluntarily gave Charles my parents' shares. We were about to get married and become husband and wife, so what was mine would also be Charles'. But I didn't expect that he would betray me after he received my parents. "You're spacing again, Erika," David said again when he noticed that I had fallen into deep thought once more. "I'm sorry again," I apologized to him for the third time, feeling embarrassed. "I need to go," I said when I noticed that his car had already stopped in front of my house. I was about to get out of David's car when he stopped one of my arms and looked at me seriously. "Tell me, Erika. Are you still in love with your ex-boyfriend who betrayed you? Can't you just turn your love for him to me instead? You know that I care for you. I love you, Erika. Please give me a chance to enter your heart," he pleaded to me. My lips parted and my eyes blinked repeatedly as I looked at David's pleading face.
