Five Years Later

(Joshua)

I wake up to the sound of whimpers and the heart monitor going crazy. I stood up from the chair and walked towards Yamilet. She’s sweating and shivering at the same time. When I first saw her in the forest all dirty and hurt, there was this overwhelming feeling of wanting to protect her. I wanted to kill whoever hurt her. It broke my heart to see relief in her eyes when she asked for us to kill her. I can’t begin to wonder what she had gone through. A panicked scream rips me from my thoughts and I gently shake Anaya awake. The door burst open and Jasper runs in.

“Princes. Princess wake up” I called, shaking her, but nothing. It’s like she’s stuck in her nightmare.

“Yamilet” Jasper calls using his king’s voice. Yamilet's eyes snap open, looking around.

“W-where is he?” she asks, looking around.

“Where is who?” I asked.

“My foster dad. He was here. He found me. P-please don’t make me go back. I can’t go back” she sobs. Jasper picks her up and places her on his lap, being careful with her IV and strokes her hair. I watch my brother closer and how he is with the little human. I have never seen him care for anyone like this. People categorize my brother as mean, heartless... just plain out cold, but they could be any more wrong. As I watch my brother, only one thing comes to mind.

'Is she your mate?' I asked him through the link, making him look at me.

'Yes' he admitted with a nod. Now i understand why I felt so protective over her. She's not just a human, she's my brother's mate and future Queen.

'I'm happy for you Jasper. You deserve to be happy'. I linked him, and he gave me a grin.

‘So it was her foster dad who did this to her’ I linked my brother growling in the end.

‘We will find out who he is, and we will make him pay’ Jasper growls. I know he’s right. Whoever this man is will pay for what he did to our little mate.

‘She can’t go back there. We need to find a way for her to stay here with us. I just found her. I can’t let her go’ Jasper says.

“It’s okay princess. You are safe here and no one is going to take you away” I said.

‘I’m going to talk to Laura. Hopefully she can help us’ I says and Jasper nods. I leaves in search of Laura, hoping that she can help my brother and Yamilet some way.

~Five years Later~

My brother and I just got back home from work and I’m so happy today is Friday. Jasper and I have been so busy all week with work and pack stuff that we have hardly seen his mate all week. I haven't been able to see my beautiful mate, Bianca, much either this past week unless she has to leave early for her shift at the pack's hospital. This past week we have been leaving early and coming home late and by the time we get home, our mates are usually asleep.

“Bianca is going to be happy to see you. We have been so busy lately and I'm sorry for that”, Jasper says.

“I know, Yamilet will be happy to see you too, but we can make it up to them. This weekend it can be only for them and don't worry about it. It's something we have to do. Bianca understands” I said and Jasper nods. I can feel my Lycan eager as well to see our mate.

“Did you take a look at the cars I sent you for Yamilet’s birthday?” I asked. Jasper asked me to Rick out some cars that Yamilet might like.

“Yes, I saw them. I think it would be good for her to have a black or white Audi R8. For some reason I can picture her in that car”, Jasper said and for some reason I felt like he was imagining his mate in the Audi.

“Sounds good” I nodded. We pull up to the castle with a few minutes to spare before our beautiful mate gets home. Jasper and I have been training her a little in self defense, but not so much. I want her to know how to defend herself in case she runs into a rogue and she's alone. Hopefully it doesn’t come to it, but we never know what life has in store for any of us. Jasper and I walked into the castle to see Rose coming from the kitchen. Rose is like our second mom after our parents were killed along with some of our pack.

“My handsome boys. How was work?” Rose asks.

“Hi mom. It was good. How was your day?” I asked, giving her a hug. I step back and Jasper gives her a hug as well.

“It was good. Henry and I went out for brunch before running a few errands", mom said.

“That’s good” Jasper says.

“I should go, Chris should be home from school any minute” mom says, rushing out the door. Before she can close the door, Brenda walks in. Brenda use to be Jasper's girlfriend, but when he found Yamilet, we broke things off. She still tries to get with him though.

“Hello handsome” Brenda purrs placing her hand on Jasper's chest. Jasper moves her hand away just as the front door opens and Yamilet walks in. She has her hoodie up covering her face. She rushes past us without even looking at us or saying anything. As she runs up the stairs, I can feel heat radiating off of her and her heart pounding.

‘Do you feel that?’ I asked Jasper.

‘Yes, why is she radiating heat like that?’ he asks.

‘I don’t know’ I said. I move past Brenda and rush up the stairs with Jasper right behind me. Before she could even touch the doorknob, Jasper growled, making her freeze in her spot.

“Aren’t you going to say hello to us?” I asked. I hear her take a few deep breaths and I hear her heart slow down and the heat is not as intense anymore.

“Hello Joshua. Hello Jasper” she says without looking at us. She opens her door, but Jasper grabs her arm, turning her around, but what I see makes my blood boil.

“What happened to you?” Jasper asks.

“Nothing I couldn’t handle” she said.

“Yamilet, you have a bruise on your face. Who did this to you?” I growled wanting to protect my future sister in law. I see her clench her fists and unclench.

“I ran into a locker” she says, and we know she’s lying, she’s really bad at lying.

“Yamilet, we know you’re lying” Jasper says.

“It’s nothing I couldn’t handle” Yamilet snaps, making me arch an eyebrow. She groans, running her hands down her face.

“I’m sorry for snapping at you both. I know you just want to protect me, but it’s nothing you have to worry about”, she says.

“Are you hurt anywhere else?” I ask.

“No" she says.

“Okay, go change and I'll go get you a snack” I said and she nods walking into her room.

‘What do you think?’ I asks.

‘I think something is going on and she doesn’t want to tell us’ Jasper said and I nods in agreement.

“I’m going to go change while you get her snack” Jasper says. I walked down the stairs and I saw Cassandra. She goes to school with Yamilet and she’s an Omega.

“Your highness, may I have a word?” Cassandra asks.

“Of course” I said. Cassandra looks around before shaking her head.

“In private,” she all but whispered. I guided her to Jasper's office and close the door.

“How is Yamilet?” she asks.

“She just got home and is in her room, why?” I asked. I could see her getting nervous.

“Cassandra, you can talk to me. It’s okay”, I assured her.

“Yamilet can’t know I told you this. She’s my friend and I don’t want to lose her friendship” she said and I nod.

“She won’t know”, I promised.

“Yamilet was attacked today” Cassandra says.

“Attacked? By who?” I asked.

“A rogue. It ignored me and went straight for her, tackling her to the ground. He was using his weight and speed against her but Yamilet was fighting back just as fiercely even though she was pinned under the rogue. I hit him over the head with a large stick and this gave Yamilet the chance to turn things around. She screamed at me to run and I did. I heard the rogue howl in pain followed by Yamilet asking who sent him. After that, I didn’t hear anything. I ran home. When I saw your car arrive, I came as fast as I could” she explained.

‘Yamilet was attacked by a rogue today’ I linked my brother.

‘What?’ he growls through the link.

“Do you know where this attack happened and when?” I asked.

“After school. It happened at that little path we take everyday to school and back”, Cassandra said. Just then, Jasper walks in the office making Cassandra whimper and step back. He notices Cassandra and reels back his wolf.

‘Easy, she’s already scared and doesn’t want Yamilet to know she told me about this’ I inform my brother.

“Hello Cassandra” Jasper greets.

“Your highness” she bowed her head in respect.

“I know that trail. Thank you for letting me know. You're a good friend, Cassandra. You may go”, I told her. She bows her head and opens the door to leave but stops when she sees Brenda outside the door. Cassandra looks back at us in fear before excusing herself.

“I was coming to see if you wanted to go out for some Chinese” Brenda says to Jasper.

“No, thank you. We have other important things to do”, Jasper says. I go to the kitchen to get Yamilet her snack. She usually doesn’t like eating anything heavy, so I get her some freshly cut fruit and a bottle of water. I go up to her room and knocked, but there was no answer. Jasper opens the door and walk in. I place the snack on her desk. As I turned to walk to the door, Yamilet walked out of the bathroom pulling her shirt down, but I had already seen the bruises on her ribs. Jasper rushed towards her and lifted her shirt.

“What happened to you?” Jasper asked her.

“It’s nothing. I’m fine” she said, moving away from me.

“Yamilet, I understand you don’t want to tell me, but I need to make sure that you are okay”, Jasper tells her. She opened her mouth to say something, but a growl from Jasper made her close her mouth.

“We have to go somewhere to go, but after your snack I want you to go see the pack’s doctor” Jasper said.

“We will let him know you are coming. When we get back, we’ll do something together” Japser said.

“Fine” she said sitting down on her bed. Jasper and I kiss the top of her head, then leave her room. We go outside, undress and shift into our Lycans. We take off running to the path Yamilet takes and the stench of blood hits my nose. I shift back to my human form as I reach the dead body. The first thing I see is Yamilet’s silver knife that I had given her. At first Jasper was against it, but now I bet he's glad she had it.
