19 We followed Kokinos inside the fortress. The interior was as bleak as the exterior with rough stone floors and walls. Torches lit the narrow hall that ran from end-to-end. A door on our left led down a flight of narrow, winding stone steps to I assumed the sub-floor. On our right were the stairs the led up to the second floor. Kokinos led us up the right-hand stairs and to a narrow hall that ran along the center again. On either side were open spaces interrupted only by thick wooden support beams.
