-Ezekiel POV-
A tall woman walks in. She has tight black clothes, dark skin, brown eyes, and her hair is in a sleek low ponytail.
Behind her, a number of men run in and stand behind her.
“Hand her over!” The woman says. Her voice sounding much lower than what a women’s voice should sound like.
“No!” I shout at the woman.
“Vampire.” Wolf growls out at her.
Theo starts shooting at the woman. The woman dodges left and right
While the men get ready to shoot at us.
Wolf lunges at the female vampire and they crash into the hallway of the hotel. I grab Theo and Aurora and pull them behind the couch, shielding them from the bullets that are starting to head our way.
I leave them there and rush to the men. One by one, I take them down. There are six of them but they are so zone in into what they are doing that they don’t notice me until it is too late for them.
Once they are all taken care of, I look out of the hall and see that Wolf’s fight has gone past the hall and into other rooms where people's scrams can be heard.
“Take the girls out!” Wolf shouts from the room in a growling tone while I hear him fighting.
My eyes are drawn to the end of the hall, where more enemies come from.
I quickly step back inside and close the door.
“Time to go ladies.” I say.
I run towards them—grabbing a lamp and throwing it through the window— and pick each of them like a sack of potatoes under each of my arms.
“Ezekiel don’t!” Theo shouts.
I ignore her and run through the windows I just broke. We go through it while both girls scream, falling a few feet down, and then I land with both my feet on the ground.
I stand them up and they both wobble, making me chuckle. Theo suddenly bends over and throws up. I look at Aurora who is almost in shock with her eyes bulging out.
“That was not... cool EZ.” Theo says wiping her mouth.
“Sorry, had to think fast.”
I look at Aurora and now she looks frazzled.
“Are you alright darling?”
She stops and looks at me with her eyes wide and nods.
It is the cutest thing I have ever seen in all my unnatural long life... besides bunnies. It is my secret and I will take it to my grave but I love bunnies and she reminds me of one. Innocent and cute.
“Do I get the car or the van?” Theo asks reminding me where we are and the situation we are in.
“Car, the van would be too easy to spot if we are on the run.” I say. “Go get the car ready. I’ll go back and get the files and computer.”
As I say this, Wolf busts out through the back door with the files in hand and Theo’s computer.
I nod. “You aren’t a stupid mutt after all.”
“Shut the hell up, i***t! They are still after us!” He shouts.
I laugh. “I know. Let’s go.”
I am not invincible but I am a noble vampire, meaning that I am just as strong as any Alpha if my powers are used correctly. Werewolves can top us on strength but we have speed on our side. Combined, we can take an Alpha wolf down. But I tend to mess around a lot and not take things seriously... until I am pissed and that doesn’t happen often.
We run into the car that Theo already has started and we bolt out of there.
“Did you kill the vampire?” I ask.
“No, the b***h bit me and I threw her...” He stops talking and Theo finishes.
“... out the window, I assume.” Theo says coming to a stop and looking straight at the vamp who must have been knocked out because she is now getting up from the middle of the street with shattered glass around her.
“Run her over!” Wolf shouts.
Theo speeds up and hits her. The vampire rolls through the hood of the cat and goes up in the air. I look back and see her hit the ground. As the car drives further from her, I can see her getting up.
(That one won't die easily.)
I look over to Aurora to see how she is doing and she looks scared but also a bit excited.
“Are you okay?” I ask.
She nods and gives me a smile, making my eyes drift to her welcoming-looking mouth. “Yes... I think.” She says.
“How did they find us anyway?” Wolf asks.
“That is a good question.” Theo says.
Suddenly, we are hit on the side by another car.
“s**t!”
Theo regains control of our car and as she speeds up, she starts to cut other cars off. She takes a sharp turn and a few other cars around us lose control and crash.
We take a small street where the road is made out of old bricks. It makes the car jump everywhere. At the end of the street, she takes another sharp turn and we go into traffic, blending with the rest of the cars.
“f**k, there is a helicopter now looking for us too.” Wolf says and we look up through the windows to see a police helicopter hovering high up over the road.
“It’s because we made too much of a ruckus.” I say.
Aurora gasps looking up. “What is that? Is that a... giant bird?”
"Nope, it's a dragon." Theo says and Aurora gasps.
I laugh but quickly tell her the truth because now Aurora looks terrified. “No, it's not. It’s like one of these...” I point at the car. “... a car but it has no wheels and it flies.”
“Your automobiles can fly too?” She asks in a high-pitched voice.
“Yep.”
(There is so much to show her.)
That thought excites me. For some reason, I want to do that. I want to see her face of amazement when she sees all the things that are new to her.
We are hit again but this time, from the back and Theo speeds up again.
“What is going on?” Wolf shouts.
I look at Aurora. “Do you have any scar that was not there before?”
She looks surprised at the question but starts to look at her arms and body. She shakes her head.
“No, but... this eternal spell seems to heal me fast and no new scare is left.”
I nod and take her hand. “Let me try something.”
I close my eyes and concentrate on her, on her blood, the flow of it, her skin, her pulse. With my eyes closed, I softly roam my fingers down her arm and stop when I feel a slight disturbance in the flow of her blood on the inner arm, just before reaching her wrist. My eyes opened and I find her staring at me with flushed cheeks.
I smile, loving the reaction. “Found it.” I say.
“Tracker?” Theo asks.
I nod. “I think so.” I take her hand and start squeezing.
Theo goes through a ramp and gets on the main busy road but the enemy fallows and continues their assault.
As I carefully squeeze, I can feel something small and hard under the skin.
“There it is.” I say and look at Aurora. “I have to take it out.”
She vigorously nods and takes a deep breath when I hold a pocket knife onto her skin.
I gently push the blade in and cut. She hisses and the smell of blood entices my nose. Then I go in with my finger and take it out.
“Got it!” I say.
When I look back down to patch her up, I watch her skin instantly heal.
I am almost surprised but then remember why it heals.
However, I never let good blood waste. I take her arm and lick the remaining blood off. It is barely hearable but I hear it, she gives a small gasp when my tongue touches her skin. I look up at her, my eyes intensely staring into hers, and then I lick my fingers that still have her blood. Her wide eyes don’t falter from what I do.
Her blood tastes sweet as I had expected it. It is a taste I remember from a witch I courted a long time ago until she tried to kill me but I ended up killing her first. Aurora’s blood is sweet as it should be and I can tell that she hasn’t been tampered with in that lab. The problem is that now, I want more.
I control myself and hand her hand back while she blushes and I internally smirk, satisfied at her reaction.
I lower the window and throw the tracker out. Theo continues to speed up and move from side to side but now the men behind us start shooting. We lower our heads as bullets fly through the windshield and now the damned cops are after us too.
“There’s that big bird again!” Aurora says.
“Hang on!” Theo says. She suddenly does a one-eighty, causing a commotion on the lanes, and then she starts driving in the other lane that was going opposite from us, merging with the other cars while the enemy's cars continue to drive past us, and now, they are the ones being chased by the cops.
We are all taking deep breaths at this point.
Theo suddenly drives to the shoulder of the road and stops.
“What are you doing?” Wolf asks.
I start to smell a strong scent of blood. I look at Aurora but there is nothing on her.
“We have to keep going Theo, they might notice, and-” He stops. “Theo!”
“I think I was shot.” Theo says and then she slums her head over Wolf’s shoulder, losing consciousness.
“Take her!” I shout.
Wolf grabs her and puts her on his lap, trying to stop the bleeding on the side of her stomach.
I move to the driver's seat and start driving with speed. In no time, we get to the hospital and rush her in.
We watch as they take her on a gurney. I have to close my eyes and control myself because even though I am good at keeping control when blood is spilled, the temptation is still strong. I have to fight my predatory instincts and it is not always easy.
My eyes open when Wolf growls at me.
“This... this was not part of the plan.” Wolf says looking at me pissed.
“I know. Why are you angry with me?”
“Because you just had to want to keep her!” He points at Aurora as he shouts. “We should have left her before she even woke up!”
“She is important and they want her back for a reason!” I don't shout but I make it known that I am not in the mood to argue.
“That’s a f*****g excuse and you know it!” He shouts, his eye darkening.
We are interrupted from our heated argument when my phone rings with Marco’s name on the line.
Wolf growls and storms out.
I sigh and pick the call up. I tell Marco everything that has happened so far and he agrees with me. We have to keep Aurora safe and away from the people that want her back but now, we are short a person.
I finish talking with him and sit with Aurora who is almost asleep on a chair. Her face shows sadness and it bothers me.
“Was this my fault?” She asks now looking wide awake.
“No. Don’t pay any attention to the stupid dog.”
“Dog?... wait... is he not a vampire too?”
“Oh god no. That man is a mutt. A werewolf.”
She gasps. “Werewolves are real too?”
“Yea and they are very temperamental as you can see. But... he is useful and despite the fact that he can really be a pain in the ass, he is my friend.”
She looks like she is deep in thought, then looks around.
“And this is a hospital?”
“Yes.”
“This is amazing. I never thought that a hospital could look like this.”
“Medical advances are pretty amazing these days. People don’t easily die from smallpox anymore.”
Her eyes widen. “Really?”
(She is really cute.)
You can tell she has fair skin from the unburned side.
“So that means that Theo will be okay, right?”
“Well, we don’t know yet princess. As advance as the medical field is now, sometimes doctors just can’t save a patient.”
“Oh.” She says and looks down looking a little disappointed.
I bump her shoulder with mine. “Just give it time. We’ll know how she is soon. Theo is human but she is a fighter. She has taken a bullet before and that girl can't be taken down easily. ”
Aurora nods looking relieved. Suddenly, she looks like something else came to her.
“... and what about... burns?” She asks.
“What about them?” I ask.
“Is it possible to get rid of burn scars now?” She looks down at her burned hand.
“No, but why would you want to. You still look beautiful. I don't see anything wrong with you.”
I move her hair that is covering her burned cheek but she turns away and gives me a side glance.
“You do not have to be so nice.” She says softly.
“I am not. I am a very honest person. And I see nothing wrong with you.”
She looks down again and I see her wince as if she was in physical pain.
“Are you okay?”
She looks up and smiles. “Yes. I am okay.”
We continue to wait for news of Theo but Aurora ends up falling asleep on my shoulder.
My eyes are glued to the floor, thinking about Theo. I have lost many people I care about over the years so this is not new to me but... she is young. She has so much more life ahead of her. I hope she will be okay.
Wolf comes back looking like he managed to calm himself down. The doctor then suddenly comes out and heads straight for us.
