Chapter 15

-Aurora POV-  I am laughing as Ezekiel and I go in through the huge beautiful doors.    I thought Ezekiel and Wolf together were funny but Abigail is the best. I cannot believe she did that and how did she even bring the spider in that tight golden dress she had on?   (Wait! I knew I saw something moving in her hair!)  This whole thing just distracted me from what Ezekiel just did to me. That man rendered me almost on my knees. He would have had me eating from the palm of his hand and I loved every second of it.    Ezekiel pulls me by the hand as we now go through a big hall. This house is a mansion no, a castle. The walls are white and gold along with the decoration.  I stop and pull on Ezekiel's hand. "Up there." I say, pointing to a long set of regal-looking stairs, feeling a pull towards them.  When we go up and reach the top, the pull is much stronger. As if my legs have a mind of their own, I start walking. Ezekiel does not let me go but lets me lead.  It is a familiar feeling. It is in a way comforting but also there is a need as if the book wants me to find it. It is calling to me.  I stop in front of a black door. The door looks different almost as if it was more secured than the others we have passed.  "In here?" Ezekiel asks and I nod.  As Ezekiel attempts to open the door, I close my eyes and feel the power that comes from behind it. It is as if the air was filled with it and it is slipping out through the cracks. I feel like I can almost grasp it. But the door won't open.   "It is reinforced. Maybe the dog could open it." Ezekiel says.  "This dog just got kicked out thanks to Abigail and Leon." Wolf says through the earpiece. "Wait...” Wolf says. “Leon? You say you named it after your cousin?" Wolf asks Abigail.  While Ezekiel continues to try and open the door, we can hear their conversation.  "Yes." Abigail says.  "That... wouldn't be the trouble maker Leon, from the Academy, would it?" Wolf asks.  "That is exactly it." Ezekiel says still trying to force the door. "They are both related to the same woman if you haven't noticed. Luna May is his mother."  We can hear Wolf sigh.  "Aunty May is awesome I'll have you know." Abigail says.  "Oh, she is...” Ezekiel says. “... but she is also damned scary. Centuries, I've lived for centuries and never met anyone like her."  (This woman they keep talking about sounds terrifying.)  Ezekiel steps back from the door and gives a huff. "I can't open it."  I look at my hands. "Maybe I can try." I say.  I put my hands on the door and close my eyes. I feel the magical energy surrounding the door and hope that some of my magic is back.  I remember the spell my mother taught me and use it.  "Aprare" I whisper as I concentrate.   The door makes an unlocking sound.  Some spells just require a simple chant-like this one. More complex ones like the Eternal damnation one might require a whole paragraph of a chant. There are also some that might need blood or herbs.  I look at Ezekiel   "You did it." He says. “Is your magic back?”  “Not fully.” I say.  He pushes on the door and it slowly opens revealing a large room with glass cases and odd-looking items in it.  I look at my hands and am happy that my powers seem to be returning.  "Marco and Theo would have a field day if they were here." Ezekiel mumbles.  It almost feels like a maze. We navigate through it with me following the strong pull. There are weapons and items I have never seen in my life.  We turn a corner and it is finally in view.  "There!" I say rushing to it.  It is on a table that has a glass case around it. I touch the case, wanting to touch the book. To have my hands on something familiar to me but I am unable to do so because of the glass barrier.  "I am sure the moment we open this, there will be an alarm." Ezekiel says.  I stare at the books behind the glass and notice something. "Wait... it looks different."  "Is it not the book?" Ezekiel asks.  "It is... I can feel it but... the gems are gone."  "Gems?"  "It had green gems on the spine of the book. Do you see those hollow circles? That is where they used to be.”  "Maybe they got lost over the years." Abigail says.  "Could be but, will it still work?" Ezekiel asks looking at me.  "I do not know but I can still feel magic from it although I have to admit, not as strong as last time I saw it."  Ezekiel nods. "Okay, everyone, get ready."  "Already have the car started." Wolf says.  "Ready for what?" A man's voice comes from behind us startling us.   The man Dimitrios stands there with his men behind him.  He narrows his eyes at us.  "Do you really think you are making it out of here with my property?" He has a strong accent.   Ezekiel quickly stands in front of me in a protective way. He looks calm and not bothered by the men in front of us but I am panicking inside.  "Did you really think I did not see you or recognized you, Ezekiel?" Dimitrios asks.  Ezekiel smiles. "You seem bitter? Did I have something to do with that?"  Dimitrios looks furious now.  "Uliana left because of you!"  "Your daughter left because she had an oppressing father who treated her like she was still a child. That is on you."  The man grinds his teeth.   Ezekiel looks back at me. "Darling, go hide."  "Enough with your games. I am not up for them." Dimitrios says furiously but before any one of us can do anything, a loud noise comes through the ceiling, like an explosion.  We all doc. Ezekiel puts his arms over me and moves us behind the display table containing the book.  "What is going on?" I ask.   "Wolf, Abigail, is that you?" Ezekiel asks.  "No. We heard it from out here." Wolf says.  We hear some fighting and when we take a look. Two new people now stand in the middle of the room.   Ezekiel stands up looking at the two menacing-looking women and I recognize one of them. The vampire that attacked us in the apartment before.  I look at Ezekiel and his face is now stone cold. I want to say he looks angry but no, he just looks serious now. His usual playful demeanor is gone.  Dimitrios—who was on his knees covering himself from the debris—stands up cleaning his suit.  The new woman with blond hair and blue eyes gives a smirk and takes one step forward.  By her looks, I assume she is a vampire, and if she is with the other woman, she works for the people who had me, the hunters.  The blond woman looks our way and gives Ezekiel a smile. Ezekiel stands up dusting his suit and then stands tall with his hands in his pockets.  "So, you now work for them?" Ezekiel asks the woman.  I am confused because it sounds like he knows her.  "Yes, Ezekiel. I have for a long time." She says.  "Why?" He asks.  There is no playfulness in his tone anymore. He is calm but his face is completely cold.  "Their goals align with mine." She says.  "So... you still want the same thing?" Ezekiel asks.  "I always have." She says. She almost has a painful expression on her face and so does he.  (Who is she?) I look between them completely confused.  They stare at each other and it is obvious that they have history.  "We'll be taking the girl and that." The other woman says stepping forward and pointing at the book.  Ezekiel finally looks like he snaps out of it. "No, you are not but... how did you find us?"  "Enough! Get out of my house!" Dimitrios shouts.  The blond woman takes a gun out and shoots Dimitrios on the head.  I jump, startled, and am horrified.  "That will shut him up for a while." She mumbles.  I take a deep breath, remembering that Ezekiel said that Dimitrios was a vampire.  "To answer your question..." The other woman says stepping forward. "We found you a while ago. After you talked with Ron from the lab, we knew you were after the book so we waited and watched you. You did the job for us. Now we get the girl and the book. Our plan-"  "Akila! Enough." The blond woman says with command.  "Sorry but that is not happening. The girl is mine." Ezekiel says.   My heart jumps at the protective tone he says that with.  The blond woman narrows her eyes at him. "Not the book? Just the girl?"  "I'm taking the book too but Aurora is my priority." Ezekiel says.  "...You almost sound... processive over her..." She says.  "That's because I am." Ezekiel says.  "Z, I am in position. Give me a sign when you are ready." Abigail says in our ear.  Ezekiel gives a small nod but doesn't say anything.   "You better not be throwing the damned spider at them." Wolf mumbles. "I'm starting to feel sorry for it."  “How sweet but...” The woman says and then looks at me. “... don’t get comfortable girl, he will leave you too.”  (Leave me? Too?)  “You know why I did what I did. I will not apologize for that.” Ezekiel says. “Aurora is a different matter. She is nothing like you.”  “Yet you look at her the same way you did me, once.” She says.  “You kid yourself if you think you are anything like her.” He says.  I am so confused.  "You... b***h!" We hear Dimitrios say and start to get up but the blond girl lifts her gun up and shoots him on the head again.   Dimitrios plops on the floor motionless... again.  (So, I guess vampires can't be killed with bullets?)  Suddenly, more steps enter the room and what looks like an army of men, run in.   "They killed the boss!" One of them shouts.  They lift their guns up and start shooting. The woman Akila starts dodging and taking them out one by one while the blond girl rushes Ezekiel and he meets her head-on.  The fight is too fast for me to see but I am more distracted by the rope that appears next to me. I look up from where it comes from and see Abigail on the roof looking down through the hole the explosion left.  "Climb up." She says.  I nod.  I open the case where the book is. I take it and put it in between my knees so I can hold it while I climb. Then I start climbing up the rope but it is easier said than done. I do not understand how people can climb with such a thin rope and the book is not making it any easier. My hands quickly start hurting and there is no leverage for me. I am dangling just a few feet up and the rope moves violently, making it hard to keep a grip. I quickly fall back down but land on my feet. The book falls but I quickly grab it and clutch it within my arms.  "Ezekiel is this really the life you want!? We... we are not right. You know this!" The blond woman says as she and Ezekiel fight.   The woman Akila finishes with the men that were shooting and now gives her attention to Ezekiel. My eyes widen when she is about to s***h him from behind.   "Ascendio!" I shout as I lift my hand up.   Fire shoots out of my hand and Akila catches on fire. Ezekiel and the blond woman stop, watching Akila violently scream and thrash around.  "Now." Ezekiel says.  I then hear shots fire from above us and hit the blond woman who holds her arm and hisses in pain. Ezekiel runs towards me and takes me in his arms. He then jumps up with me and the book in my arms. We land on the roof but he stops and looks down.  "Elenore, if you want to throw your life away, go ahead. But count me out of it!" He says and then starts running with Abigail behind us.
