So close! I was so close to finally feeling Torin’s lips on mine. It was like a conspiracy to make me wait. But the child’s screams propelled me into action, like some instinctual knowledge I was helpless to ignore. I followed the sounds with Torin close behind me. I could feel his fear, but the sounds of pain overrode my instincts of self-preservation. If there were rogues around the corner of the house attacking a defenseless pup, they would rue the day they stepped foot on my territory.
