Timing is a lover of coincidence, and the moment my heels clicked on the hallway of Elk Grove High, they conspired to make my entrance grander than I had imagined. The school bell rang, and for a moment, the ringing was the only sound my ears were capable of picking up, before the flood of chatter and whispers overtook it. Eyes hungrier than the hounds of hell sized me up, sockets moving like magnets, all trained on me. I let the cunning, somewhat coquettish smirk show. A suspended silence overwhelmed the entire hallway; mouths agape, eyes bulging, their attention stolen by my presence for a while, before the spell lifted; the students remembering that they had classes to attend, and tardy slips to avoid. But it was already done; their first impression of me now engraved in their minds
