The Cursed Omega
Imagine being hated and treated like a slave by your own people and even family for no valid reason. What kind of life would that be?
Well, you just got the exact picture of my life, and take this from me, it is not a life worth living. The only thing which stood between living and taking my own life was the Lycan King, the murderer of my parents.
My name is Lyah Sebastian, and that last name is all the evidence I have of ever having a family. My parents were killed in a foreign land 14 years ago under suspicious circumstances, suspicious to most of the pack but well known to be normal to me. Because of the mysterious death of my parents, strongly beloved by all, and my brother, my very superstitious pack came up with the belief that I was cursed.
It, of course, started like every other rumour, but after the appropriate age had come and I had not shifted like every other member of the pack, they called me a human adopted by my parents because ‘they wanted a girl child’; in the Primal pack, the girl child is seen as a blessing and a reward for good deeds from the moon goddess herself. And my rumored curse soon became the truth and I, an outcast.
After my parents’ tragic death, I was taken in by my horrible uncle and his abusive wife. Approximately a year after that, his body was found butchered, his head torn apart from his body and his fingers ripped off after he had almost beat me to death earlier that day.
This was more than enough for his wife to start up and protest to throw me out of town until my cousin intervened. I keep wondering whether that would have been better for me, because things only got worse from that moment.
I would cry every night for the loss of my parents, after every beating from my aunt I would wonder why the moon goddess had allowed the only people who ever loved me to die that way, I would think about taking my life to meet them again, but I would remember the one last thing I had to do before then, take their revenge against the Lycan King.
Nobody knew what he looked like in these areas. The lycans were greatly feared and the werewolves trembled at the mere sight of them, many werewolf communities had left their farms and lands to move far away from them and build a new pack 7 generations ago. No one would dare scratch their King except they wanted to die, but I knew that after I had killed him, death would be an honour and a pleasure to me.
I would be lying to say that I had never wanted true love like every girl in the pack did, but I knew I would never get a mate, I hadn’t even shifted yet, I wasn’t a wolf. Not that I believed I was human, but I knew that the moon goddess had obviously forgotten me and left me dejected, although this didn’t stop me from saying silent short prayers to her about it, I still had hope…, unfortunately.
Today she had answered those prayers finally… out of the will of mockery…
“You wretched, dirty little rat. How dare you assume that I’m your mate?!” Dray exclaimed in front of the entire pack. “What nonsense! I will never have a human as a mate.”
“It’s not an assumption, Dray, I know you feel it too, so stop pretending.” I cried out.
“Will you get away from my man and get over your delusions?” Olivia said, pushing me down. The entire pack roared in laughter at this sight.
We were all gathered around the town square for the first full moon of the season. Another season had come and I had not yet shifted but instead had gotten a mate finally. Why was I even surprised? They obviously all hated me but I had expected the moon goddess to find me that one person who didn’t or at least change his heart.
I knew well that Dray had fancied me, he was the Alpha’s son and next in line to take the mantle of leadership, hence, he commanded great respect. But I was probably the most endowed girl in the pack and I had always noticed the way he looked at me whenever I walked by, he had always had eyes on me even while he had a girlfriend.
But I was the weak, wolfless daughter of a dead omega, so of course he never made a move. However, this time was different, I had never expected him to go against the moon goddess’ will, as the next in line to lead the pack, he of all people should know better than to defy her.
“Fine then. I, Dray Warren, son of the Alpha of the Primal pack and Guardian of the 7 forests and 12 rivers, reject you, Lyah Sebastian, to be my mate.” Dray declared, looking down at me in repulsion. My jaw dropped in defeat.
Was this how the moon goddess had planned for it to end? In pain and disgrace? After all my years of praying, after all the abuse and torment I had faced from the pack and my own uncle’s wife in her home, this was the outcome?
She had given me a mate that could never be attained, the Alpha’s son, how laudable! I must be a joke to her that she has kept toying with me all my life.
“Seal the deal and say it back already!” People shouted at her from the back, but I couldn’t bring myself to. The question ‘what next?’ consistently rang at the back of my head.
“Hey, omega, finish up already, you’re wasting everyone’s time for goodness’ sake.” Another person from the crowd shouted.
“I believe she’s lying. There’s no way the moon goddess would plan for a cursed human like this to be our luna. She would never, is that not so?”
“Yes! She would never!” They all agreed in unison. My hands fisted on the ground, gathering sand.
“Stop!” I exclaimed, I’d had enough of this humiliation. “I… I, Lyah Sebastian, accept your rejection, Dray Warren.”
Immediately, bouts of air escaped my lips as I held my chest tightly in pain. Dray staggered in pain as he struggled to keep his composure despite the bone wrecking pain which I was sure he was equally feeling in his chest.
“Come baby”, Olivia said as she helped him out of the field, eyeing me on the way out.
My tears multiplied as I groaned in pain on the ground while children mocked me and grown-ups laughed at me, calling me all sorts of names. This was my only chance and I blew it. There wasn’t going to be a second chance mate for me, this one had taken an eternity before I had gotten it and, even if there was, I could bet my left eye that he would despise and reject me just as everyone in the pack did.
The pain in my chest grew exponentially, worse as I hurriedly stumbled away from the square in shame and disgrace. I tried to run but couldn’t, instead I found myself in front of a bar as fearful men trooped in and drunks trooped out. I was too young to drink, but it was all I needed right now, more than anything I wanted to drown in or out of my misery completely.
I was about heading in when college boys trooped out, drunk and slurring. I recognized them, these were the pack’s rogues, they vandalized buildings, stole and raped girls. My breath caught in my throat as they approached me.
“Would you look at who we have here?!” The ring leader announced, slurring. “The town’s most despised omega.” The strong alcohol on his breath forced me to move back.
“Please, I’m not looking for any trouble. I must have my lost my way, I’m sorry.” I begged, tears forming in my eyes.
“Little cursed thing, if I sleep with you now, will I also be cursed?” He said, slightly running his thumb on my lips and I shivered in repulsion. The gang laughed.
“Please…” I whispered, my voice cracking.
“Don’t beg, let’s go” He said, grabbing my arm and pulling me into a dark alley beside the building.
“Please…” I kept begging, there was nothing else I could do. They were known to disfigure girls who fought back. My heart pounded hard in my chest, I couldn’t believe what was about to happen to me after everything that unfolded today. Just when I thought nothing could be worse.
He threw me to the ground as he began unbuckling his belt. “Leave us alone” he said to his gang.
“Rob, I th…” One of them started.
“I’ll let you have her once I’m done. I’ve had my eyes on this one for a while, I need to enjoy her.” Rob explained, licking his lips in such a way that made my stomach churn.
I was beyond terrified. Was this really about to happen to me? All along I had only heard about their victims. I had never imagined that it could ever happen to me. Soon, the gang had walked out of the alley, leaving me with their leader.
“Take off your clothes and turn around. I won’t be gentle from the front.” He said as he threw all his clothes on the ground, smiling at me wickedly, his eyes filled with lust. I hesitated at first, tears streaming down my face.
“Please… I beg you.” I begged one last time.
“Did you not hear me?!” He shouted in anger and he grabbed his belt and swung it hard at me. I screamed and shut my eyes in fear, but nothing happened. Everywhere went silent.
I opened my eyes to see the tail of the belt being held by another man. I could barely see what he looked like in the dark space, but he was tall with an incredibly defined jawline. He towered over Rob and grabbed him by the throat, almost raising him.
“How would you like to lose it?” He asked menacingly, his authoritative tone causing shivers to run down her spine.
Who the hell was this attractive man?
