Chapter 20 – Cleaning Up
A few hours later, Jerry was safely aboard the Skybridge 2 planetary defense platform. He stood on aching feet in a wide corridor near the salvage dock, watching the men from Ormelius shuffle into the station.
Now that the battle was over, the post-adrenaline crash had set in, and the infantrymen looked every bit the battle-hardened veterans that they now were. Several looked like they might collapse before they made it to the infirmary. The more energetic ones walked alongside the stretchers bearing the dead. The Auxilians carrying the stretchers walked slowly enough for that weary honor guard to keep up.
