Chapter 9 – Masks and Unmasking
Jerry was rudely awakened by the jump klaxon. He flinched at the loud noise and groaned. A little more sleep would have been nice.
“Jump to cross-space in ten seconds,” announced a voice over the loudspeaker.
He sighed and waited.
“Jump.”
There was a brief squeezing sensation.
“Jump complete.”
He rubbed his eyes and yawned. A.C.S. Raymond Shepherd was now in cross-space, exactly three days' journey from wherever it was going. He wondered if the captain would tell them their destination.
“Attention,” boomed Lieutenant Commander Taylor's voice from the loudspeaker. “We have just jumped to cross-space and are now on our way to the rally point at star system 34-8-17.”
Jerry gave an amused grunt. At least that answered that question.
