Chapter 24 – New Territory
Jerry stepped out of the Infantry Transport Lander and onto the soggy soil of Forever Dawn. He was in a semi-tropical region of the planet, and it was summer. The heat and humidity pressed down on him like a warm towel, and he immediately began to sweat. He already missed the climate-controlled environment of the gravpack.
“It's hotter than the Nightfire here,” Sandstone said.
“Flint,” Mason growled, “get that shield on.”
“Oh, right.” Flint activated his energy vest. “Sorry, Sergeant.”
“Breeder's name... Everyone else double-check. Shields on, helmets tight, wrist comms synced to helmet comms. Swords sheathed, rifles at the ready. Don't get sloppy, people. Focus on the job, and do it right.”
Jerry double-checked his gear and then looked around.
