Chapter 9

1525 Words

“Hi, Jess.” “How are the kids, Lainey?” Jessica clicked through archives. “Outside playing with their father.” “Tell them Aunt Jess says hello.” “What have you been up to lately? Saw the reports of another victim.” “They wouldn’t let me talk to her, and the police are keeping things under wraps.” “Have you thought about coming back here?” “Maybe a visit, but I love New York, Lainey.” Jessica paused on the barn from her hometown and zoomed in on the statements from the kids in the area. “I could come for a visit to see if I like New York.” “You don’t need to do that.” “Our parents could watch the kids.” “Once they find the killer, we can plan a girls’ trip.” “I thought you were going to stay away from the investigation.” “After the third victim, no way I could leave it alone.”
