Brielle’s POV
I sat in the restaurant downstairs wondering what I would do about that Meeting with SK Property. Charles wanted me to Make sure I arrange for the meeting or I can find my way out of here and those people didn’t want to talk to him.
“Were you scolded today as well?” I heard Leah’s voice ask me as I looked up with a smile, she joined me to the side and I moved away to give her some space.
“Well, it’s nothing serious,” I said eating from the muffin I had ordered,
“Are you sure? Because you don’t look like it,” She said to me as I exhaled heavily.
“To be honest, I don’t think I will stay here for long. Charles asked me to arrange a meeting with SK Property developers three days ago but I cannot manage and today he said I should leave if I don’t get back to him,” I explained to Leah who smiled briefly at me saying nothing she went on eating her sandwich.
“I see he’s still determined to meet that man; do you know the history between the two?” She asked me as I shook my head clueless about it.
“We are looking to buy land where we can put up housing infrastructures but we can’t,” She replied as I looked closely at her
“Why?”
“Because Mr. Sterling doesn’t want to sell his land to us.” She responded, and I was eager to know the reason behind it.
“Why?” I questioned her again
“Well, Charles dumped his daughter five years ago, and she almost committed suicide. So, he said he never wants to meet Charles again,” she explained to me as I nodded my head not sure whether I should ask anything more from her.
“I will advise you to just tell him it’s impossible, if not I can talk to him,” She said to me and I bite my lower lip not sure if I should let her do it.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, thanks anyway,” I said to her as I went on eating my food when we finished eating, we walked back to the office together.
“all the best!” She said to me as she dropped off her floor, I went to my desk going to organize everything for the expo he was attending in two days’ time.
After I finished, I looked at the time and it was time to knock off; he was still in the office so I couldn’t leave. Instead, I continued working on his appointments.
I looked at the time and it was already 9 pm and there was no sign of him leaving the office. I sighed heavily as I looked at the watch minutes moving so fast. I took a deep breath gathering all the courage I had to ask him if I could leave.
I knocked twice, and he didn’t respond; I knocked again.
“Yes?” His deep flat voice answered I held the doorknob exhaling deeply as I entered the room.
“Hello Sir, I was wondering if you needed anything before, I leave?” I questioned him as I bite my lower lip waiting for him to respond.
“I didn’t know you were still here; you can leave.” He said to me as I nodded my head turning to leave.
“Brielle, What time is my meeting with Mr. Sterling?” he questioned me causing me o stop in my tracks as I turned to look at him.
“He didn’t respond but I am still….” I wanted to explain to him but he lifted his eyes shooting daggers at me as I swallowed hard.
“What is your job description?” He questioned me making me uncomfortable with his question I opted to keep quiet.
“Ms. Griffins, don’t bother coming in tomorrow,” He said to me as I exhaled heavily looking at him, I wanted to yell on top of my voice but just chuckled.
“What wrong did I do? I have done everything I could to get you that appointment it’s not my fault they don’t want to meet with you. Why should I be blamed?” I asked him as tears threatened to fall from my eyes.
“You don’t know your wrong? Here’s what you wronged, failing to arrange a meeting that I asked you to arrange and underperforming. I don’t know why Leah even hired you because you are so incompetent,” He said to me as I chuckled.
“I am sorry that I don’t live up to your expectations, just because you are perfect does not make us who are not incompetent> I hope you have a good night. Sir!” I said to him with an emphasis on Sir.
I walked out of the office going to pack my things after I finished packing, I could go downstairs to look for a cab; I knew the train stopped moving a while ago so I had to find another way to get home.
I didn’t want to waste my time carry all these things, so I quickly sent a text to Leah asking her if she can go through the box I packed before I collect it tomorrow.
I got out of the elevator walking out of the building; I stood by the roadside waiting for a cab as I chatted with Cara who said she had to work late tonight. I didn’t want to say much about me getting fired so I just told her to take her time.
I hailed for a cab and went home. As soon as I got in, I threw my things on the couch getting a bottle of whiskey and walked to the bed going to drink myself to sleep.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A loud buzzing sound woke me up as I looked around wondering what time it was, I had forgotten to turn off the damn alarm.
I Checked around if Cara had come back home and she wasn’t, I just nodded my head covering my head as I went back to sleep,
My phone vibrated loud as I groaned patting the bed as I looked for it. I Grabbed it and answered without looking at the screen.
“Hello?” I said with a hoarse voice.
“Where are you?” I heard the flat male voice ask me; I knew this voice but from where.
“Hello, Are you there?” He spoke again as reality hit me as I looked at the screen. It was Charles calling.
“Hello, Sorry I am home,” I said after clearing my throat so that I speak clearly.
“Meet me at R&J In twenty, you said you wanted this job. Here’s a chance to prove it” He said cutting the line. I wondered what he was talking about but I would go either way.
I quickly dashed to the bathroom brushing my teeth and fixing my hair, R&J was a well-known restaurant that many men had business meetings from.
I put some light makeup and grabbed my slim office pant and white shirt with a royal blue jacket. I grabbed my things as I looked at the watch; I had only twelve minutes left to get to the restaurant.
“Sorry, what’s your name?” I questioned the driver I had booked,’
“Jeff” He responded
“Please, can you get me there in say eight minutes? I promise to pay for any tickets you will get” I said to him as he nodded his head increasing the speed. I checked in the mirror if I was okay and I got in my heels.
After seven minutes he got me to the restaurant and I paid him his $100 he had requested from me.
“Wait! Have this” the man said giving me some mint gum,
“Thank you so much,” I said to him as I rushed to go inside the restaurant, I wondered where I would find Charles.
“Were you drinking last night?” I heard the flat voice ask me behind as I quickly turned around to look at him.
“Hello, sir?” I said to him as he looked at me from head to toe,
“Let’s go,” He said without responding, he led the way to an enclosed area. I just followed him as we went to settle down.
“Do I really sound like a robot?” He questioned me as I went through the menu, he gave me,
“What”
“In your messages, you said I have no feelings and speak like a robot,” He said to me as I choked on my own saliva.
“Why don’t you take some water” He handed me a glass of water as I took it from him drinking it.
“Seems you know quite a few things in negotiating business contracts, so I will keep you around for a while.” He said to me as I swallowed hard wondering what changed his mind.
“I thought you said ….” I wanted to say and he lifted his head looking at me
“I know what I said but I think I have changed my mind. You said I am a terrible boss that’s why I don’t have anyone who’s willing to work with me. How about you? Why do you want this job?” He questioned me as I swallowed hard wondering if I should really tell him the truth.
He was rude to me last night and today he wanted to know why I wanted a job? That was strange
