Sleep deserted Inayah throughout the short night. It slinked along the absolute darkness of her room, creeping on the corners, edging towards her. It slowly sunk from the tips of her toes upwards and just as her lids grew heavy with exhaustion, she shuddered awake in terror. At dawn’s first light, Inayah was up and drenched in night sweat.
