He spectated the battle anxiously, watching the monster attack and destroy everything. Luther seemed to be losing energy, and every now and then he would fight back with no results. The look on Oliver’s face showed how much he worried about Luther.
Eric asked cautiously, "Oliver, do you think we should help Luther?"
This made the others look at him in surprise.
Eric looked down at his feet and mumbled, "I was thinking about the way you all jumped up to help me when I was being chased. I know I was wrong. I’ve been such a jerk. I was so sorry, but I didn't want to die out there, so I came back. I didn't think you'd save me, and I know I deserved to die. I didn't ask for anything. I was going to divert the monster myself. Then Luther came out of nowhere and saved me before I was caught."
Eric said firmly, "Luther is in danger now, and I can't watch him get hurt. If you don't go, I will."
Then he walked forward. Oliver grabbed his arm and gave him a stern look. Then he sighed and said, "You're only going to die for nothing.”
Oliver felt that Eric had repented sufficiently. He believed in Eric. Luther had saved his life, so how could he stand by now?
"I’ll go instead. I'll distract the monster. I just hope I'm fast enough to escape."
"I’ll go too. Luther saved me once. I can't let him be alone out there. Besides, I have a gun and I'm trained to fight. I'm sure I can help Luther." Elena stood up, too.
"Just be careful," Eric said.
"Alright." Oliver and Elena ran to Luther first, not noticing the sneer that grew on Eric’s lips, "You’ll all die like the idiots you are."
-----
Luther was focusing his energy on the monster’s claws. When its short claw came around, he jumped up and attacked its eyes on his way back down. The blow was easily blocked by its quick, short claws, but it left a cracking sound.
Is his hand finally going to break off? Luther, already sweating from his forehead, had been fighting with the monster for five whole minutes, using every ounce of his energy to dodge and attack.
"Luther, we're here to help you out."
Luther was startled when he heard the voice. He looked back and saw Oliver and Elena. The grim reaper noticed them, too, and chose to attack Oliver first.
It turned and charged toward them, waving a scythe three meters long.
Elena rushed to attack, but the long claws shielded it from the bullets Her gun only made the grim reaper angrier and faster.
A scythe slashed towards Oliver before he expected it. He jumped up to where he stood. However, he was still grazed by the broad claw on his arm, drawing blood. He yelped and fell to the ground, clutching his arm to his chest.
"Oliver!"
From far away, they thought since Luther was able to hold off the monster on his own, they would be able to kill it with him. However, she had no idea that the monster would be so powerful. Oliver, even with his power, could not even dodge one jab from the creature.
Just as Elena was trying to rescue Oliver; a strong wind blew over her head.
It's over. She feared for her life.
Just then, a tall figure appeared over them.
Luther’s sword spun over them like a shield, fending off the scythe that would have fallen on Elena's head, but the collision was very painful for him.
"Get him out of here." Luther gritted his teeth and held off the claw with difficulty. He felt that they were fools, and if he wasn’t fast enough, they would already be dead.
Luther glared coolly at the grim reaper, and when Elena retreated, he quickly backed out of range. Luther rubbed his sore wrist.
"It’s time to put an end to you."
As his sword fluttered in the air, growing faster and faster, the grim reaper seemed to feel the force of the blow and began to strike violently.
Its sharp leg stepped toward Luther. But Luther dodged it and seemed to slide away from it just far enough that it couldn’t reach him.
Looking further, it would have noticed Luther leave a path of ice where it stepped. He used his power.
Using the slippery nature of the ice, with almost no effort at all, he could create an entire floor of ice where he could glide away with perfect balance and use less energy than it took him to run.
This was a skill in progress. Luther wasn't very fast, but he was able to brush past the grim reaper’s attack whenever he needed to.
The scene was so dusty that only the faint shadows of Luther and the monster, as well as the flash of his blade, could be seen
"What's this?" Elena stared at the dust cloud from far away.
And as the sword flashed faster and faster, it all ended with a loud roar and a gust of wind that dispersed the smoke.
As Luther leaped up, he could be seen breaking through the grim reaper's long claws, the blade of his sword pointing straight at its eye. And his sword, in the hot sun, glistened like an icicle.
The grim reaper, meanwhile, raised its short claws to fend it off.
He cut at the grim reaper's short claw.
The cracking sound showed the stubborn resistance of the short claws, but the crunch was loud enough to show that Luther had cut through it.
In less than a second, the sword cut through his claws and straight into the grim reaper's eye.
The grim reaper's eight eyes were wide with astonishment and alarm. It wanted to reach back with its long claws, but they didn’t have joints like the short ones so it could only flail them about wildly.
It knew that the moment its shorter claws were broken, it was done for.
The grim reaper fell with a crash.
Luther cut down through grim reaper's eyes with his sword, then reached out his hand and began to search inside its torso. When he pulled back his arm, it was covered in a green liquid, but there was an egg-sized object in his hand. A dark green liquid was flowing inside it, giving off a beautiful, iridescent glow.
"Apocalypse fluid. Finally."
