8 We ventured down the streets and in a few minutes the roads opened to the lake. The elegant white rocks glistened in the morning sun, and now I could see they were all smooth from countless years of water and wind. I had a better view of the large boulders and was surprised to find that many of them were taller than I was, and some were jumbled into groups that edged into the water. The lake was fed by small gurgling brooks, all of which flowed into the calm waters from the other side. The wind that had brushed against my hair since we left the inn, however, stopped, and we were left with a lake surface as clear as a mirror.
