5 Our host led us inside a small but comfortable lobby, and a short desk stood against the rear wall. To the left of the desk was a hall that led to the lower floor rooms, and closer on our left was a dining room, simply furnished but clean. A candelabra hung over us and cast a soft glow as Asher signed us in. “Will you be staying long, Signor Nilogh?” Patron wondered as he studied Asher’s signature from the other side of the desk. “That remains to be seen,” Asher replied as he pushed the book to our host, along with a few loose coins. Patron arched a dark eyebrow as he ducked the coins out of sight. “Well, you will not find many guests hereabouts. The festival is not for another few months. There is, however, a small group from the University Magicalus that is studying the lake.”
